They just announced on their YouTube that the first track from the album, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, is out now!!  ;D I’m assuming this is the special thing they said was coming on the 10th.

Has anyone listened to it yet? Personally, I think it sounds decent, but I feel disappointed that it’s so short. The original song has seven verses, and although most people don’t cover all of them (the most I’ve seen anyone do is Loreena McKennitt, who did five), I can’t help but feel that Celtic Woman should have done more than two.  :-\

The song is mostly just vocalising, and although they sound great, it just feels a bit…lacking in substance. However, Muirgen sings the second verse wonderfully, and I’m glad they gave her the part. She’s one of their best vocalists and definitely deserves more attention. I do wish they gave Caitríona more attention since this is her first song…again, adding more verses would have divided the attention equally. They did include one last verse before repeating the first, but for some reason, everyone sings it. I don’t understand why they didn’t have Caitríona or Mairéad sing it alone. It would have worked a lot better.

I really like it!

I know why you say that. I felt the same way about Spanish Lady for the 20th. But I don't feel as strongly like that about this Christmas single.

I thought they were gonna announce Christmas M&G like last year...

I've been considering going.  7 hour drive plus a hotel.  OK, I've done worse!  Interesting that the tickets in the pit are close to $300.  Regular is around $80.  In the past, I've paid $300 ish for tickets thru PBS, which included a M&G.  Since this involves some amount of travel for me, maybe I go to see Chloe in her South Carolina concert (2 hours away from Atlanta), then go to Lisa Kelly's Masterclass.  Both the same weekend.

I haven't listened to it entirely but just from the preview I can't help but not listen to it without pretending Lisa Lambe is on it. Either I'm crazy that it sounds exactly as with her or they lowered the new members volume. It's like when they released May it Be as a Susan solo in the part where Mairead Carlin would of done the soaring harmony it's almost as if they applied it but in lower volume otherwise a background singer did it but lightly!

It's so hard when a new song is debut with another member and then released and recorded with others! Other notable times I felt the same way was Alex and or with Lynn song(s) recorded with Lisa L and Lisa K instead, or Megan instead of Susan at first!

Thank you so much for letting me know! I’m listening to it right now.  ;D It seems as though they’ve given Caitríona the first part, but it might be Sibéal (I haven’t heard much of either to be able to tell 😬). Either way, the opening lassie sounds absolutely majestic! Muirgen and Mairéad are incredible as well  :) I think this will end up being something I’ll listen to all year round  :D.

I am surprised the song isn’t in Irish. The title comes from one of the traditional twelve days of Christmas, and apparently is the title of another song by someone named Jennifer Licko, and although I haven’t listened to that yet, given that it took me three pages on Google to find it, I’m going to assume this one is a CW original.

ADDENDUM (because I was too lazy to edit the first paragraph  :P): I do believe after listening to some Sibéal (her rendition of The Wind That Shakes The Barley, which I would recommend! It’s quite captivating!) that it was indeed Caitríona in the beginning. Her voice is utterly enchanting and fits perfectly with CW.

Also, I’m glad to finally have an answer to what song they were singing in the promo video that went “winter’s daughter with her tender song”, because that was driving me mad trying to figure out what it was! 😭
