I think seeing the 2016 Níl Sé’n Lá resurface solidifies it as my favourite version of the song. And god, Muirgen is just so incredible! One of their best vocalists for sure.

I think that oftentimes there’s sort of a “lead” member if that makes sense. The member that just has a more dominant presence than the others, even though the others can be notable as well. Think Lisa L in Believe and Emerald or Megan in Postcards From Ireland. I think that’s what Muirgen is now. Caitríona’s been promoted a lot, but she’s still kind of the “newbie” and Mairéad is sort of the “legacy act”, similar to Chloë in PFI or Emerald.

That happens to be one of the cool thing’s about a lineup’s change or a member’s time with the group. I would add Eabha for Ancient Land, and Susan for Destiny. That’s why Megan I was so excited to see her being the veteran and she was for time, if you watch that youtube video of the new era tour someone compiled and watch Muirgen you’ll probably then understand more with what I mean. Chloe was a great friend and role inspiration to Muirgen, not that she needs it but we all benefit from having one!
I would absolutely agree for Susan in Destiny. The interesting thing about that is that there’s no legacy vocalist. Máiréad N definitely fills that role instead despite being kind of separate as the violinist, and both Mairéad C and Éabha were the newbies, although I’d argue Éabha stood out more than Mairéad C did then (not saying this as a slight to Mairéad C, but baby Éabha had a certain charm to her). I don’t know about Ancient Land, though, I’d argue that Éabha and Mairéad were pretty equal, even Megan seemed to be overall equal with them despite being new…but Éabha might have stood out more by virtue of her writing one of the songs, her playing the tin whistle, and her contralto voice. I’ll have to rewatch the concert compilation and get back with you. It’s fun to see the dynamics between the girls, like with Lisa K and Chloë or Tara and Muirgen! And it’s beautiful to think of Chloë being sort of a mentor figure in PFI like how Lisa K was to her!
