Other Musicians / Re: Moya Brennan Just Died 🥀

Oh no. How sad. I will say a prayer for her. We'll probably see a lot of tributes on social media today.

I think there are people on here that were fortunate enough to meet her at Eabha's Celtic World Forum in 2024.

One of my favorite songs is Ireland's Call, when done by Celtic Thunder.  Great closing song.  Anyway, one line is "from the 4 proud provinces of Ireland:.

I can’t even express how sad I am at this news…her music has helped me through the darkest of times and this is utterly heartbreaking…I might post a longer message about this later, but right now I can’t bring myself to do it…I could barely sleep last night.

Moya’s music has meant so much to me, and I am utterly grief-stricken 🥀

Celtic Woman A New Era Toured 2026 / Re: Preferred Mairéad Solo

I really like The Prayer in general, no matter who sings it (Josh Groban, Bocelli, etc).

On top of that I really like Mairead when she goes full opera mode. I did post in another thread that I told her I'm glad she brought "Opera Mairead" with her. She said in 3rd person, that "she" only came for one note. And that note was in The Prayer.  ;D

No have at it
Thank you! Let’s hope I can redeem myself…

This member is so far the only CW member from this province in Ireland…

Attached for reference is a map detailing the provinces of Ireland. Note that provinces are different from counties, the counties are within provinces.
Okay, no one has replied to this in over a week, so I’ll just give the answer. It’s Kate. She’s from Mayo (in Connacht province).

Here’s one that should hopefully be easier: which members have sang and played an instrument simultaneously while performing with CW?

Oh you learn something new every day.

I did not know Ireland had provinces. I know a lot of the Counties. And it took me a while to know the difference between Great Britain & the UK, and the countries they contain. But I didn't know Ireland had provinces. Thanks!

Celtic Woman A New Era Toured 2026 / Preferred Mairéad Solo

I’m curious to see which one because apparently River replaced The Prayer for the Canadian tour leg. CW has been mentioning Joni Mitchell so much I think she’s about to be the next member.

Personally, I’m torn because while I appreciate The Prayer being brought back after a while (I don’t think it’s been sung since the ANJ tour) and I don’t necessarily like a Christmas song (even though River isn’t technically a Christmas song) being reused for the very next non-Christmas tour, I do vastly prefer River to The Prayer, and it has even more special meaning because it’s my mum’s favourite CW song. But although Joni Mitchell is a legend, it does seem a bit excessive to change the setlist in every single show in her home country. I do get the town one, though. But I also feel that Both Sides Now might have been more fitting, especially as I’m pretty sure that’s Mitchell’s most famous song and Mairéad was absolutely stunning in performing it. I also wish Mairéad could’ve been given both to sing, although that might be unfair to Muirgen (then just give her another! 😭).

But I have been unable to attend any shows this tour, so those who attended will have a better frame of reference than myself. Does Kate accompany Mairéad on River since there’s no orchestra?

Ok as far as we know the problem has been fixed. They found that the firewall that was installed to keep out all the AI bots was in fact fighting with the forum software. The forum wants to do a revers lookup on each person joining well when your behind a firewall that gices everyone cloud Ip address's and we could have 10 -15 people with the same Ip address and then the forum software is sitting there scraching it's head and saying how can this be and going around and around in a loop tring to figure out who is who and causeing the forum to use up it's resources and the fix was easy to do in the SMF software setting all i need to do was turn off hostname lookups and now we should be good to go. At the time of this post the forum has settled down and the Number of Processes used is down to 6 from 115 which is the max for the hosting plan so we will see how things go but things should be good from now on.

Thanks for understanding
Glen
