Title: The Celtic Tenors: Live at the Empire
Post by: CWazyTom on December 11, 2025, 12:13:13 AM
If you have a chance, watch The Celtic Tenors new PBS special "Live at the Empire." It was airing recently and is on PBS Passport for those with active PBS memberships.

There are some great harmonies!

You'll see a few familiar faces, including:
- John O'Brien on pipes, whistles and guitar. He played whistles for Celtic Woman for a while, including on Destiny. He was also in Riverdance and Celtic Thunder.
- Matt Gilsenan (Deirdre Shannon's brother)
- George Hutton (He's the new member of The Celtic Tenors. You might recall him from Megan's stories a few years ago or from his recent work with the legend Phil Coulter.)
- If you pay close attention during the credits, David Hayes did musical arrangements for the show. He's done plenty of work with Glenn Murphy over the years.

Hmm. If I go to the PBS link:
https://www.pbs.org/video/the-celtic-tenors-live-at-the-empire-8yPJnW/

It says this:
We’re sorry, but this video is not available.

Is it just me? Or is there an issue with PBS?

It still works for me. Make sure you're logged in to PBS passport and then search for the special. I'm not sure if availability differs by station or if every PBS subscription provides access to the same content on Passport.

That's weird. It still doesn't work for me. Maybe each local PBS has different content, although that doesn't seem right.

Yes. The funny thing is I started watching the video the day Tom posted it here. When I went back another day to finish it, the video was "gone".

I finally got it to work! My local station setting was wrong. So I do think the location setting matters!!!

That was a good concert. What a diverse collection of songs! I never thought I'd hear a Guns N Roses song in a Celtic concert. Haha!

I do like Matt Gilsenan. I've seen duets he's done with Deirdre that they've posted online.

Also I think the guest performers (Next Generation Leahy) almost stole the show. Is that trad? IDK but it reminded me of BIIRD, which is trad reinvented.
