Title: Hopes/predictions for a 20th anniversary compilation album
Post by: GG on July 18, 2023, 07:25:35 AM
I hope that, like in previous milestones, Celtic Woman release a compilation album for their 20th anniversary.

If they do, what tracks would you like to see featured? Do you think they'll be from previous albums or new re-recordings?

Maybe both.

They'll likely do an album to coincide with the DVD release.

There might also be a "best of" anniversary CD too (hopefully also a documentary feature on a second DVD that goes through their journey and all their members and where they are now).

Oh the dreams I would make happen if I were in charge of the DVD production.

Going by Decade / X and Solo and Celebration, I'd say it's going to be previously recorded songs. I would hope (as others have suggested) it's new recordings of previously released songs (e.g. Voices of Angels).

As long as we're making wish lists, I wish they could get something from Deirdre & Hannah on a CD. Like an updated Solo album.

Decade had a Quadruple album so I wonder if they'd do that again.
If I were creating an XX quadruple album I'd do -- replacing some songs with ones from recordings done since the 10th anniversary.
Disc 1 The Songs
1. You Raise Me Up (replace with either the 6 girl version from 2008 or else the VoA CD exclusive or the 3Arena concert version)
2. Caledonia
3. Orinoco Flow (replace with most recent version from 2018).
4. Fields Of Gold (Ancient Land version)
5. Danny Boy (either the Homecoming version or the one on the digital only version of Ancient Land).
6. My Land
7. My Heart Will Go On.
8. Amazing Grace (2016 version)
9. Sive
10. When You Believe
11. Walk Beside Me
12. May It Be (Postcards from Ireland version)
13. Angel
14. Mise Eire
15. The Parting Glass (Either the Homecoming version or the Ancient Land digital deluxe version)
CD2 – The Show
1. The Sky & The Dawn & The Sun
2. Homeland
3. The Voice (Homecoming version)
4. Newgrange (Ancient Land version).
5. The Dawning of the Day.
6. How Can I Keep from Singing
7. When You Go
8. Galway Bay
9. Green The Whole Year ‘Round
10. Follow On
11. You’ll Be In My Heart
12. Beyond The Sea
13. Isle Of Hope (Homecoming Live version)
14. O, America! (2016 version)
15. The Soft Goodbye
CD3 – The Tradition
1. Mo Ghile Mear (replace with Homecoming Lament/Mo Ghile Mear Live)
2. Black Is The Colour (2021 version)
3. Dúlaman (replace Meav with Mairead Carlin's live version).
4. Skyrim theme.
5. Téir Abhaile Riu (Live)
6. Siúil A Rún (2019 version)
7. Scarborough Fair
8. Across the World
9. Níl Sé’n Lá (2016 version)
10. Moorlough Shore
11. Ballroom of Romance
12. The Hills of Ireland
13. She Moved Thru’ The Fair (2016 or Live 2017)
14. Sometimes A Prayer Will Do
15. Follow Me
CD4 – The Classics
1. Bean Phadin (2019 version)
2. Non C’è Più
3. Ae Fond Kiss
4. Ave Maria (replace 2011 version with 2016 version)
5. Time to Say Goodbye
6. You’ll Never Walk Alone
7. Pie Jesu
8. Nella Fantasia
9. The Prayer
10. Somewhere
11. Vivaldi’s Rain
12. The Lost Rose Fantasia
13. Over The Rainbow (replace with the Ancient Land version)
14. Walking In The Air
15. Nocturne

I'd specifically like it to have twenty songs and be presented in a two-disc set (ten songs on each disc).

My tracklist predictions:
Disc 1
01. You Raise Me Up (Voices of Angels or The Greatest Journey version)
02. Amazing Grace (Songs from the Heart, Emerald or Ancient Land version)
03. Mo Ghile Mear (My Gallant Star) (with or without Homecoming Lament)
04. Wild Mountain Thyme
05. Orinoco Flow (original or Ancient Land version)
06. Ballroom of Romance
07. Homeland
08. May it Be (original or Postcards from Ireland version)
09. Danny Boy (Emerald, Voices of Angels or Ancient Land version)
10. Téir Abhaile Riú (Believe or Voices of Angels version)
Disc 2
01. Fields of Gold
02. Níl Sé'n Lá (Songs from the Heart, Emerald or Voices of Angels version)
03. Beeswing
04. Tír na nÓg
05. Follow Me
06. Dúlaman (A New Journey, Emerald or Voices of Angels version)
07. My Land
08. The Voice (A New Journey or Emerald version)
09. Long Journey Home
10. The Parting Glass (Believe, Emerald or Ancient Land version)

I can't wait to hear Mairéad, Tara, Muirgen and Emma together! This is going to be outstanding!

Probably Éabha, though I feel like Susan would be more likely to show up once or twice.

Remember how Meav would show up often as a sub for a few years? It seems like Susan is the new Meav showing up sporadically (taking Chloe's place on some tour dates, recording Post/Christmas cards from Ireland with the group). It seems very likely that if a 5th person were there it'd be Susan.

Most of you may know my dream answer would always be Alex and or Lynn for the fact that they also were devoted subs during Emerald Tour, Tenth Anniversary and Homecoming Tour! They never got the Christmas recording treatment, they deserve to be featured as Guests I said this since an X Tour DVD wasn't made. I would of thought it made sense to Guest them on Destiny too for their commited participations to be in when the group needed someone at an important time! I surprisingly want Lisa Lambe as it would be such a surprise and a joy to have her with them... I love Susan not a surprise very likely!

Thanks! You are so great at posting breaking news on here!

This year is turning out to be awesome! I thought it was going to be a slow year for news.

Some of these I'd say are unlikely, but my personal wish list for guests would be Éabha, Megan, Susan, Lynn, Alex.

Do we think this album will be all remakes or like voices of angels where it’s a mix

For the 20th Anniversary album, I'd say favorite songs being newly recorded by the current group. And maybe they'll include the dvd filming special guests on the album as well.

You Raise Me Up -- DEFINITELY.
Looking at songs remade for VoA/Homecoming (the last two albums to be chock full of remakes) I expect these songs to be on XX.
*Mo Ghile Mear (either 2016 version or a new version)
*She Moved through the Fair (was also on Emerald -- seems to be a CW favorite though not been performed on tour since VoA)
*Ave Maria -- Almost certain. Originally from the first special and had some rearranging over the years (Chloe's version from Believe is on a multi-artist christmas CD I have that came out the same year as Home for Christmas).
*Dulaman -- who will sing it?? Mairead?? Meav?? Muirgen??
*Teir Abhaile Riu
*Amazing Grace
*Danny Boy -- you can't be a member of Celtic Woman and not record an album/special that Danny Boy is featured on. Another classic from the original special that has stayed with Celtic Woman to this day.

Today Mairead Carlin posted on her Instagram stories a photo of sheet music with the names of Brian Byrne as the arranger and the writer Oscar Wilde.

I searched for songs inspired by Oscar Wilde's work and found La Mer (a.k.a. Beyond The Sea in the English adaptation) among them. I could be very mistaken since Beyond The Sea of A New Journey does not mention Wilde directly and I found no other evidence of this relationship online.

So, I summon everyone to be a little detective today and try to find a solution to this quest.

PS: Is Brian Byrne the new Musical Director?? Or is it a collab, maybe... He has a pretty solid and successful career as a composer, I am inquisitive to hear his work on this song, at least.

Oro Se Do Bheatha Bhaile was in a sound bite on Mairead’s Instagram so maybe that’ll be on the album.

Nice find! I was searching Oscar Wilde after Mairéad posted that story but I haven't found anything. This very well could be it!

This is a bit of a reach, but maybe Vincent (aka Starry, Starry Night). It draws from Oscar Wilde's "The Nightingale and the Rose." I'm not sure they'd pull that song out of the blue (Chloë covered it solo, but CW never did) for an anniversary special and I think it only uses the story as inspiration for a line, as opposed to putting a specific poem to song. They probably would have credited Don McLean with the lyrics for that anyways.

The Charles Griffes Four Impressions songs are basically opera, which would be in Mairéad's wheelhouse, but they're not exactly easy listening. Without a complete overhaul of the music would be very, very different from anything Celtic Woman has previously performed.

I bet the vast majority of the selections will be things we've heard on past albums/past tours.
