Other Musicians / The Gothard Sisters: Dragonfly
« on: June 10, 2021, 07:59:37 PM »
The Gothard Sisters are 3 sisters from the midwestern United States who play contemporary Celtic folk music, play lots of instruments, sing, and tapdance!

We've posted about them a few times before on the forum, but over the past 15 months or so, they've managed to become one of my favourite groups!

I have all their albums and I've watched just about all their online shows since mid-March last year, accounting for 29 of the 278 online shows I've seen since I started keeping track in 2020.

Last week, they released a new album of all original songs called Dragonfly. It's immensely enjoyable from beginning to end. It's an exceptional blend of engaging rhythms, lovely lyrics, pleasant harmonies, beautiful melodies, and songs that are all really fun to listen to!

They've definitely been one of the bright spots over the past year and a half. Aside from Celtic Woman and former CW performers, The Gothard Sisters are one of the few groups I would actually travel to see.

Mairead Nesbitt / Re: Mairead Nesbitt: Celtic Spells

Promotional video for the show:

calendar / 2021-12-04 - Tim Janis Christmas (guests TBA)
« on: June 09, 2021, 11:58:54 AM »
Saturday, Dec 4, 2021
8:00 PM
Stern Auditorium / Perlman Stage

Although guest artists haven't been announced yet, it's highly likely Mairead Nesbitt will be part of the show and other former Celtic Woman artists (including Lynn and Hayley) have been part of his concerts in the past.

Thanks for sharing. It was interesting to see Deirdre performing with the group and what the first tour was like.

New Members / Re: Hello from Canada!

From one Canadian to another, welcome to the (new) forum!

There's not a lot of Canadian tour dates on the 2022 Postcards tour so far and ironically, the one show that is on the calendar I can't get to. Let's hope they can open up the border for us and that travel's reasonable by next year so we can go see our favourite ladies again!

It's been pretty rare that a principal member of Celtic Woman has gotten to perform one of her own songs in the show.

Here are the ones I can think of:

- Shooting Star (Órla Fallon, performed on the original Celtic Woman tour)
- Garden of Eden (Éabha McMahon performed on the Ancient Land DVD and tour)

Máiréad Nesbitt got to arrange many of the songs she performed in the show, including The Ashoken Farewell / The Contradiction and the Butterfly but while whose were original arrangements, I don't think any were original tunes. She also had a lot of freedom to arrange The Hills of Ireland and Dragonborn (from Skyrim) on Destiny. I believe she was involved in arranging Granuaille's dance with David Downes and they may have co-wrote it (not sure).

Can you think of any other songs that were written by a member of Celtic Woman who also performed it on one of their group albums, DVDs, or tours?

I found an old set list from the 2020 Celtic Angels tour just before it got shut down for the pandemic:

Muirgen performed "I Dreamed a Dream!"

So will the lineup be?: Megan, Muirgen, Chloe & Tara or will it be Megan, Muirgen, another new girl & Tara?

Probably Megan, Muirgen, Chloë and Tara. I think Chloë wants to follow through with her commitment to at least the end of the next spring tour. After that? Who knows.
