Take this with a grain of salt, as I in no way have any inside knowledge, but…

Could “A New Era” refer to them crossing over into all sorts of different genres? I was on Instagram a few minutes ago and saw that they had covered Dolly Parton’s infamous “Jolene”. Jolene is a very famous song, but it seems very different for them. In the past, CW has only covered Celtic, classical, musical theatre, and pop songs (but a certain style of pop…I don’t know the term but it’s more sophisticated, maybe? Hopefully ye can fill in the blanks). I think the only outlier would be True Colours, and even then, I’m fairly certain they still made that very different from the original electro-pop song that it was if I recall correctly.

Granted, Emma covered a Kacey Musgraves song “Rainbow”, but that still wasn’t a very country-style song. CW weren’t exactly line-dancing or anything when covering Jolene, and the fact that traditional country music has similarities with traditional Irish folk may be clouding my judgement, but it still seems…different.

Anyway, my hypothesis is that the “New Era” is them covering all sorts of different genres with a Celtic twist, whatever that may entail.

This does remind me of when I jokingly brought up CW covering Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club with a fiddle and bagpipes…if I’m correct, I actually want that to happen! 😂

Please note that I could very easily be very wrong so please don’t judge me too harshly or anything 🙏 just a thought

Interesting thoughts. Yeah, everyone wants CW to stay true to their legacy and heritage.

On the other hand, they can pull it off. Have you ever listened to Orla Fallon's "Sweet By and By"? It definitely has a country feel, esp with songs like "Tennessee Waltz". But she definitely does a great job and I love that album!

"Trust the process."  :P

I’d say it’s quite well known that the Irish love a good country song 😂 they also love Dolly Parton (who doesn’t?) So that’s more what i attribute it to. I was actually really hoping they would cover a Dolly song so yay for me, hope it gets released. But what I would say is that cw has a good amount of songs they’ve covered which are not particularly Irish, being more mainstream songs like Fields of Gold or Follow on. Though this was all more around Songs from the Heart to around Believe and it seemed to slow down a bit after that, we hadn’t totally seen it back until Rainbow on 20, I absolutely love it and hope they keep doing it, of course just keeping in the tradition of turning said songs into a “Celtic style” as they do.

On the previous songs they are singing such as Nil Sen La or Orinoco Flow, are they the new versions?

Nil Se'n La was the VOA version, but I don't know about Orinoco Flow...Kate was there so it must have been either the AL version or a new one...

Yeah, that's fair...I might have been going a bit overboard on the theorising  :-\...so unfortunately, no CW cover of Pink Pony Club *sigh* And you're right on them covering more than traditional songs...another one that comes to mind is I See Fire...Destiny overall was a more modern sounding album than the previous ones in many ways.

The Jolene cover was pretty awesome, though, so I do hope that could make it onto an album!

I am actually not surprised at all they go that route, if you recalled they did attend a Dolly concert and or met her. It was such a big deal for them but I will say if Megan sees this, she'd probably would of bite her lip saying maybe I should of waited a bit so I could perform a song with CW from the artist of my dreams, JUST KIDDING! 😆 I think this song will go in the same rounds as "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for" which I don't know if they recorded that and "Water Under the Bridge!"

I hadn't actually listened to that album before...the more country-style kind of put me off a bit. I have Tennessee Waltz playing right now, though...it's certainly not the style of music I normally listen to, but Orla's voice is enchanting as always! I wonder what my dad would have thought of it...he was an old-country music fan and I was trying to get him to be a Celtic music fan before he died. Anyway, I'll have to listen to more of that album!
