The objective of this game is to guess the name of the song based on clues.
There were a number of variations of this game on the old forum. I thought it might be fun to leave the format for this wide open.
The tune has to be a Celtic Woman song or a song performed by a current/former lead CW performer, choir member, or guest performer. But aside from that, you can fashion your clues in any way you wish.
Here's one to start the ball rolling.
Name a tune that has the following words:
heart, valleys, endless
-
Ok. I posted right away because I had another question I wanted to ask. Apparently, I have to up my game when it comes to CW trivia. This is a smart crowd.
I have something in mind. I better check my facts first. BFN ;)
-
Hopefully this is more challenging. I remember it because I thought it was interesting at the time.
During the pandemic, there was a transition time when there were 3 CW in the group. They each published a personal Spotify playlist. No CW songs appeared on all 3 lists. Only one CW song (same recording) appeared on two of the lists.
Name that tune.

Any wild guesses? It's ok to be wrong. That's part of the fun.
Hint #1: All 3 CW who published this Spotify playlist perform on the song.

I'll Guess
The Parting Glass?

I'll Guess
The Parting Glass?
Not correct.
But close & pretty good for a guess because you are on the right album (possibly)! (That's Hint #2.) ;)
-
I don't have spotify so I can't look it up.
I'll guess A Woman's Heart?
-

I'll guess A Woman's Heart?
Not correct.
Tricky! I understand your guess though because of Hint #2. The album is Ancient Land Deluxe / Ancient Land. The song is on both (while Parting Glass is on Deluxe). From Hint #1 & the original clue, you can figure out the CW who published the lists are Tara, Megan, Mairead C.
(That's Hint #3.)
-
I'm going to guess Mná na hÉireann They are on both the Believe DVD and the Ancient land regular album.
After that I have no more ideas. (We might need another hint)
-

Not correct.
But it's super super close!!! Let me clarify Hint #3:
"The song is on both (while Parting Glass is on Deluxe)."
.. meaning the song is on Ancient Land and Ancient Land Deluxe. It is not on Believe.
The reason you are super close is because the song is sung in Irish / Gaelic.
(That's Hint #4.)

Sigh
At this point I'm grasping at straws.
I really want to win this.

Just to confirm I only have Apple Music and not Spotify,

Did you get my PM? They did.
EDIT: more confident guess.

99.99% there. Those are lyrics in the song, but the song has another title on Ancient Land.
(That's Hint #5.)
PS. Make sure you are having fun with this! ;)

Correct!
Persistence pays off. Megan and Mairead listed that on their personal playlist. The majority of which are not CW songs.
It's still on the news section of the CW website.

Thanks for giving me so many chances and bearing with me as I tried!
Guess it's my turn...
This tune was sung by both an Irish musician and one CW member.
There are 2 versions of the cover art of the album where the song is recorded originally.
A Train is involved.
Y2K is mentioned.

A Spaceman Came Travelling?
From Chris de Burgh's "Spanish Train and Other Stories" album. The album did apparently have 2 covers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Train_and_Other_Stories
It mentions Y2K indirectly:
When two thousand years of your time has gone by
This song will begin once again to a baby's cry
Performed by Lisa Lambe on Believe (and on a German edition of Songs from the Heart), though not performed with Chris de Burgh on the recording.

Ok, I'm trying to find the middle ground between too easy & too hard. Try this on for size.
This song is a cover by CW (not original). Although the song is sung in Irish Gaelic, the title is in English. Also the chorus is not in proper Irish Gaelic; it is Irish 'mouth music'.
Name that tune.

Thank's Tom for allowing someone else to guess it.*
This tune happens to stand out in the album it was featured released in, it was this member's supposed 3rd solo released on an album while with Celtic Woman could be even named 2nd for one of the other solo didn't make it to another album it was suppose to been. It's to me a considered a true jewel Gem of itself. The beginning of it starts tho in hint out not by the member singing this song. Which Tune Am I.. (?)
;D :)
-
Good job to both of you on Harry's Game!
I only knew that last part about it because I was always confused if this was in Irish or English:
> Fol lol the doh fol the day
> Fol the day fol the day
Turns out to be neither!
Let me quote the new question from rfcw, so that it appears on the latest post.

So my question is...
Did you 'plant' the word Gem in there on purpose? Is that a hint?

Wow! Excellent question. It's a Gem to me but no ☺️ if so that would been an easy hint and our game exchange has been the challenging route!

Haha. That word 'Gem' was throwing me off because the rest of your clue did not make sense if you read too much into it. Oh that's funny! ;D

Ok. One more guess for me then it's somebody else's turn :D
Suantrai (Lynn Hilary) from Lullaby?
It's one of the few songs that starts with someone other than the main singer singing. It's technically her second solo on a physical CW album (first was My Lagan Love on Songs from the Heart). Carolina Rua was released first as a digital download bonus track for Songs from the Heart, and later released on the Solo CD.

Suantrai is!!!
I love Suantrai!
I'm curious if that would of been one of Lynn's solos for Believe if had she remained longer with CW. It be as epic moment perfectly alongside as Chloe's Ave Maria and the voice in the beginning which always dawned on me was of an angelic soprano boy and would of meshed well since Believe had the theme of the Atlanta children's choir within. ~☆

The Carolina Rua digital release was Lynn's version or the SFTH one.. I assume it be the Lynn one with Guitar since the solo CD is that!

Since today is the 19th Anniversary of the first Celtic Woman show, I'll post a riddle that's related to a different anniversary:
The original version of this song appeared on a significant music chart only in Ireland, but only a cover of this song won a Grammy. 30 years after the original was released, it was covered by Celtic Woman.

Although a proper noun, this song title traditionally has many different spellings.
- One former CW covered this song during her CW tenure with one spelling.
- (At least) One former CW covered this song before her CW tenure with a different spelling.
- (At least) One former CW covered this song after her CW tenure with a different spelling.

I suppose it could either be Ard Uí Chuain (sometimes spelled Aird Uí Chuain and introduced as a traditional sean nos song on Homecoming) or Sadhbh Ní Bhruinneallaigh (Sive, which I've also seen spelled Sadhbh Ní Bhruinealla or Sadhbh Ní Bhruinnealla, just to ensure maximum confusion), which typically follows in Celtic Woman sets.
-
Yes! You got it!
Here are some different spellings you'll see, and there are many more:
Ard Ui Chuain - CW Homecoming
Ardaigh Cuan - Meav w/ Anuna; Deirdre Shannon debut CD
Ardicoan - anglicized

That did have a nice guitar feature on camera to go along with Lynn's charm. I think the guitarist was still positioned with the band though and that one got omitted from the Songs from the Heart DVD, although it found its place in the hearts of fans on YouTube. The one I'm thinking of, the performer starts on the main stage. The singers move around more than the performer during the song.

Ok, let me try one more time. This is a better guess, as the last one I was just going off of the melody in my head.
'A Woman's Heart' has a cello player on the main stage. I just don't know if it's the first song that fits your original question...

This song is written by a famous 18th century composer.
The music / melody itself was used at least 3 times in different compositions. CW covered the 3rd version.

Without fully thinking this through:
Vivaldi's Rain?
Vivaldi (1678-1741) did compose music during the 18th century (1700s), including the work for which he is probably best known: The Four Seasons. The Winter largo from Four Seasons was covered by Hayley in 2003-ish as River of Dreams and apparently Mùa Đôn released a song based on the melody in 2005. If there weren't any other well-documented instances of artists leveraging this lovely melody for their own purposes, that would make Celtic Woman's "Vivaldi's Rain" the 3rd version.

I'll add more hints later as needed.

Handel's Lascia Ch'io Pianga (previously used as an Asian dance in Almira, then re-puprosed as "Lascia la spina" in Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, then lastly Lascia Ch'io Pianga in Rinaldo). If you write a good melody, you might as well milk it for all its worth.
-
Yes! You got it!
Lascia Ch'io Pianga = 'Let Me Weep' in English.
I love CW's cover of this song!
-
This song was the 7th solo to be performed on a Celtic Woman DVD in a language other than English.

This song was the 7th solo to be performed on a Celtic Woman DVD in predominately or entirely a language other than English.
Hints:
It's from A New Journey.
I'm counting songs that had some English words as long as most of the song was non-English.
I'm not counting songs that have some non-English words / phrases if a significant portion of the lyrics were English.
It was a correct answer to one of the previous questions.
-
Lascia Ch'io Pianga?
It doesn't have English tho...

I am one of the first classics original song, a solo brought back and turned into a new form. Not only that but my choreography was well worth a recording that never took off or rearranged! Which tune am I?

Hmm. This one is hard. I am thinking Shenandoah, which was a violin solo then a vocal solo that was never redone.
But I don't think it fits the 'original' requirement of your question.
Well, I don't mind being wrong. And I wanted to keep the ball rolling.

A very good guess... a hint is it's title starts with an S but it isn't this one...thanks for keeping the game rolling.. ;)
-
I'll try another guess. Is it Sive, which is a new form of Shadhbh Ní Bhruinnealaigh (previously a solo)?
Hmm. But again I'm not sure it fits the 'first classics original' requirement of your question.

.. the song was a solo at first for one of the original members.

I'll try again. If I'm wrong this time, that'll be 3 strikes. So we'll have to rely on someone smarter than me. :P
Is it 'Si Do Mhaimeo I'?
- It isn't 'original' in that they didn't write it. But it is 'original' in that it's on the original album.
- It was later redone as a duet on the Emerald tour. I don't think it was re-done after that as a duet or group performance.

Congratulations! 🎊 You win the finest coat sewed from Emma!
It wasn't re-done after that Emerald Tour version but Meav did Guest on Destiny and sang a new touch solo version alongside with Mairead Nesbitt on the violin so it's pretty different in ways too.. I do say the duet was one of the phenomenal evolution ✨️ evolvement for that song. What is a real bummer is there was so many rotational versions that we couldn't listen to from anyone on the internet.
Meav and Mairead C - Found
Lynn and Mairead C - Emerald Tour so Def Found, X also
Lynn and Alex - unfound

Eabha and Mairead C? Did they keep that song for the fall tour because it dawns me there couldn't be a clip of Eabha with Carlin...
-
Whew...that was hard! :P
Haha! I told Emma in person my fave line of the whole 20th concert is the "wash & wring" one. She said, "Oh this one?" and did the flamenco style hand clapping briefly.
Here's a version of 'Si Do Mhaimeo I' with Lisa and Mairead C.

Her huge smile when they are dancing around in this song shows her passion of dancing which is quite telling for a first time Celtic Woman dancer aside Mairead Nesbitt 😏!

Hint #1. This song appears on a CW 'normal' album and a CW Christmas album.
(Hmm. I wonder if this is the only song that fits that criteria. :-\ )

Oh ok. That's nice of you!
Did you see Hint #1? "This song appears on a CW 'normal' album and a CW Christmas album." How many songs besides this song fit that description? I can't think of others off the top of my head.

Yes! You got it! ;D
It's on CW Best of Christmas. If you didn't know it came from a Christmas tv special, you may not know it's a Christmas song.
