Title: Murphy's Celtic Legacy
Post by: CWazyTom on January 26, 2019, 10:57:44 AM
If you're into Irish dancing, Murphy's Celtic Legacy: Irish Dance Reborn is touring the US and Canada this spring:
http://www.murphyscelticlegacy.com/tour-dates/

Features dancers and musicians from Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Celtic Woman (I don't think any of the former lead performers from Celtic Woman are in the show, probably just the dancers and maybe someone from the band).

Just look at all those weekend tour dates!

And 6 shows in Ontario, Canada :O

Tuesday 5th March, Burlington, ON, Burlington Performing Arts Centre

Friday 8th March, St. Catherines, ON, Partridge Concert Hall

Sunday 10-March, North Bay, ON, Capitol Centre Theatre

There's actually some very convenient locations in there for me.

But there's something familiar about that weekend in March though, what could it be?

Oh right, that's Mairead Nesbitt's "Celtic Sounds" show. Do I really want to drive 4-5 hours on Friday, get back late Friday night, then another 5-8 hours starting early Saturday morning?

Argh!!!! The timing of shows this spring has been pretty horrendous so far.

But fortunately for me, Brantford is close enough I can get there and back on a weeknight.

Oh...the Brantford show is 2PM on a weekday?

That seems kind of silly.

So hours of extra driving into rush hour traffic on a Friday the night before Mairead's show? Hmm. I guess I'll pass on this one.

...And I just found out Sarah Gannon is in the cast, so I'll find a way to go:

I'm going to the show in St. Catherines and I'll just spend the night there before driving to Mairead Nesbitt's show the next day. St. Catherines is almost on the way to Mairead's show anyways, so I shave almost 2 hours off the drive on May 9th by staying in St. Catherines the night before.

That will make it a very reasonable length drive on Saturday. The drive back home on Sunday will still be brutal, even if the weather is great.

I've been skimming over a lot of posts on social media recently to avoid Ancient Land tour spoilers, but I did stumble across one from Sarah Gannon saying she was leaving the Murphy's Celtic Legacy tour. I'm not really sure why, but she sounded pretty bummed out about leaving and pretty sure she wouldn't be returning to this tour.

That's really unfortunate. She's really the only reason I was going to see the show. It still works out well as it's on the way to see Mairead Nesbitt the following day. But that really sucks that I don't get to see Sarah.

I was pretty disappointed I didn't get to see Sarah, but it was still a fun show.

It was similar to Lord of the Dance. It was a different story, but had a lot of familiar aspects in the story, music, choreography, and characters.

The music was performed by a small band at the back of the stage. The music was enjoyable. It probably wasn't as catch as the original Lord of the Dance / Feet of Flames tracks, but I liked it more than the Dangerous Games tracks.

The production crew was having a hard time during that performance. There were numerous times when the lighting came on at the wrong times, the wrong places, or not at all. There was a time during the show when they accidentally turned on the lights in the audience instead of the stage. They also shut the stage lights off as the lead performers were about to do their curtain call at the end. There were also issues with the sound sometimes, with the band audio levels being way to high relative to the pre-recorded narration. Sometimes the singers would start singing before their mics were turned on, or the sound would cut out at times during a song.

In spite of the technical issues and not being able to see Sarah, I enjoyed it and I'm glad I went.
