At the place where it all began, the Helix, Celtic Woman will celebrate their 20th Anniversary ... a few weeks shy of the 19th Anniversary of when their first PBS special was recorded on September 15th, 2004.

I suppose they'll end up touring the show on the year of the 20th anniversary of the first DVD recording, 2024. I don't think we know when the Celtic Woman concept actually started though. Maybe it was conceived in 2003 and took a year to get all the music ready, performers contracted, PBS filming organized, etc. I'm sure at least part of the album was recorded before the DVD. I seem to recall Mairead Nesbitt saying before that the actual anniversary of Celtic Woman was June 9, 2004 (Chloë's birthday), although I've never been able to independently verify that. As a perfectionist though, it bugs me that they're not doing this show on September 15, 2024 instead.
P.S. I'm creating this thread separate from the calendar entry so we can keep a thread history after the calendar entry gets cleaned up. ;)

Gregg and I are registered for tickets. Super excited for the dvd filming and to see who the special guests are! This lines up so perfectly to Éabha's Celtic World Forum. Two epic events in one trip!

Wow! Of all the speculation & discussion, this is the best!
We just couldn't figure out the timing. But it makes sense now. Something they can promote on PBS later before they go out on the US tour.

Yeah. From what I've heard is "A Winter's night in Dublin in 2004" is when they conceived the idea for the project.
The fact the 10th/15th anniversary tours were from the anniversaries of the RELEASE of the original show/album and beginning of the original tour and this one isn't is VERY strange.
I wonder if they'll do this one two years because the 15th anniversary tour was shortened so abruptly??

I have a similar problem here. I’m due to start college in Ireland this fall, but my scheduled arrival date is over 2 weeks after the recording day. 😭

Oh that sounds fun too. Congrats! I'm 100% sure you'll have plenty of chances to see some of the small concerts in pubs & churches from the ex CW ladies while you're there.

Yeah, a benefit of living over there will be access to a ton of solo shows that aren't practical for most of us to get to on a regular basis. You'll have to be our foreign correspondent.

I haven’t, but I'm not surprised. From what I understand, they were expecting a few hundred registrations but instead got thousands shortly after opening registration. It could take a while for them to get through the backlog.

There will probably be people that got accepted that can't go, so their tickets could get released for others. There really ought to be an appeals process or a block of tickets held for their biggest fans. Going first-come-first-serve from the start was kind of ridiculous. Although such a process would have instantly disqualified me from the Ancient Land filming...
You would think they would have vetted these requests a little better before dashing the hopes of some of their biggest fans. How many people are going to be able to fly at huge cost and find an affordable hotel anywhere around Dublin at this point? People who haven’t experienced prices and availability in Dublin before will be shocked and will have a hard time finding accommodations outside a hostel.

I think the only way for them to do something like that would be for them to start some kind of subscription-based fan club that they open tickets up to first. Disney's doing a similar thing right now by letting resort guests be the first to purchase Christmas party tickets. But otherwise, I don't see a way for them to figure out which people like them more than others. Social media isn't a good way to judge. For several years, I listened to their music all the time (as well as their solo projects) but didn't have social media.

I could only go if the flight was paid..😁 now why couldn't they done this for Believe or a filming in the states. Anyone in Ireland is so in luck and why not it's their birth place for Helix sakes.😁

I got an email asking me to confirm I still wanted the tickets and to reply by like the 14th.
I’m not sure if you guys replied to the original email that confirmed your application had been successful as I didn’t so maybe that’s why I received the second email?

I got this on July 10th:
We hope that you have received your email confirming your tickets to see Celtic Woman’s 20th Anniversary Show at The Helix Dublin on Fri 25th August 2023.
Can we kindly ask you to please confirm if you will be attending the show, by this Friday 14th July?
I replied that I will be attending. I haven’t heard anything after that though.
Note: I didn't reply to the original email that confirmed my registration was successful. Maybe for people that replied to the original email, they didn't bother asking again.

I seem to recall it said something about a 7:00 or 7:30 PM start time and it was expected to run about 4 hours (including an intermission).
The message that appeared after form submission got archived:

To celebrate 20 years, Celtic Woman will stage a brand-new show in The Helix, Dublin, Ireland on Friday 25 AUGUST 2023 which will be filmed for a new worldwide television special.
This event will not be on sale to the public but we will have a limited number of complimentary tickets available for this show.
Please fill out the form below to register for tickets. We will endeavour to allocate the tickets required and we will contact you before 30th June to confirm. Please note we will only use these personal details to contact you specifically about this event and they will not be used or shared for any other purpose.
The doors for this event will open at 6.30pm and the show will begin strictly at 7.30pm and may run until approximately 11pm.

Most, if not all, filming projects tend to have two nights of filming. Tonight might be rehearsal and close up shots. Tomorrow night, with an audiance, may be filmed again for wide shots to capture an audience.

That is a very good point. I honestly didn’t look behind me at all, so I'm not sure what it looked like.
Those of us that did attend benefitted somewhat (I had been assigned row "L" and somehow ended up front-center after the free-for-all to fill seats).
There were so many ways this could have been handled better. The early notice was great, but the follow-ups for registrations didn’t work well and sadly left many deserving fans out of luck. It's so sad.
Some things that might have helped (all have flaws though):
1. State in big bold text in the registration form that you are responsible for booking hotels and accomodations, along with a warning that due to the Notre Dame vs Navy college football game the following night, stuff was extremely expensive and you should book immediately. I don't think many people were prepared for the limited availability and insane prices of hotels that weekend (upwards of $1000 US a night at one point).
2. Paid tickets. Pay within 7 days of acceptance or forfeit your spot.
3. Automated and immediate responses, if it was truly first come first serve. You know within minutes if you're in or out. Once it reaches the threshold, all subsequent registrations get immediately rejected.
4. Require to provide proof of ability to travel, flights (if applicable), and accomodations within like 7 days of acceptance or you forfeit your spot.
5. Then send notices to waitlisted people to do the same, within 7 days.
6. Sell tickets for any remaining seats.
On the upside, the crowd that was in attendance was great (aside from clapping out of sync with the music). 🙄

I think that a good solution could be to create or recognize an official fan club(s). Then, on these occasions, turn tickets available for fan club members first and only after that open for the general public to apply. This way, they would have a clearer sense of who truly is a 'dedicated follower' and not this 'first come first served' nonsense.
I don't see paying for these tickets as a good control method because, as it is too limited, it would skyrocket the ticket price/value. Even if they did a 'symbolic pricing', it would potentially exclude some of us that went to this filming with a tight budget.
The Fan club approach is not perfect though, They would have to be very careful with the criteria and related stuff, and probably to employ some kind of community manager for it, ideally, someone who has a good knowledge of the group's history and its fanbase across the globe. I see Ava doing it very successfully - on a smaller scale - with her Patreon subscribers and it's doing really great for her.

I had sent in my request for tickets. Didn't get them. OK, such is life. I'm aware that doing any kind of a live show these days is becoming pricey. Thanks Ticketmonster! Did you see the prices for Taylor Swift? Yes, the Notre Dame game conflict was an issue. Did CW even pay attention to that? Yes, maybe that's the only time they could get the Helix.
I would not have done last minute tickets. Maybe in the US, but not overseas. The closer you get to an event, the more things cost. I've said over the years that the ticket cost for CW is the least expensive part of the show.

If it's your first time, don't know them submit get it but later don't show up wheras you have loyal devoted followings that dream or knowledge appreciation of every member to appreciate support cw is suppose to be a room of all those what celtic woman meant to them all these years in my opinion. Yes, tickets were free. Flights, hotels, etc were not.
While having the long time fans in attendance was really important, it was essential to have new(er) fans too. It's the new fans that will sustain and grow the fan base. Imagine being a new fan experiencing something so epic, surrounded by some of the biggest fans in the world. They're going to be hooked for life and tell everyone they know how amazing it was.

You raise an interesting point. However, would new US fans fork out a lot of money to go see a show with a group they may not be super familiar with. If I look at my show history, my first show was the only one that year. Same with the second year. Then the 3rd year I went to 9 shows. That year I went to 2 shows in New York and 2 at Red Rocks. Both of those were not necessarily cheap trips (hotel, flights, car, etc), but by then it was worth it, plus my job allowed me to do those kind of things.
I sent in my name for the Helix show, but didn't get chosen. For my wife and I it probably would have been a minimum of $5k. Probably more, since once you pay for the flight, you might as well do some other traveling while you are there. For example, they were doing tours of Highclere Castle.

When the girls promoted 20 shots I came across an Instagram story post from Susan responding sorry to miss this one. This response just makes me curious not saying Susan be in the lineup they didn't have any other special guests for a song. It was just an interesting answer.
