Ancient Land / Re: Mna Na hEireann Lyrics
« on: October 30, 2018, 12:20:27 AM »
Alright, I did a little sit-down with this song, and I've written down the words they've dropped (or added). By no means should these be considered "official", but this is to account for the changes they did here. Underlines in green are additions, strikethroughs in red are removals.

Tá bean in Éirinn a phronnfadh séad domh is mo sháith le n-ól
Is tá bean in Éirinn is ba bhinne léithe is mo ráfla ceoil
Ná seinm théad; atá bean in éirinn is níorbh fhearr léi beo
Mise ag léimnigh nó leagtha i gcré is mo thárr faoi fhód

Tá bean in Éirinn a bheadh ag éad liom mur' bhfaighfinn ach póg
Ó bhean ar aonach, nach ait an scéala, is mo dháimh féin leo;
Tá bean ab fhearr liom nó cath is céad dhíobh nach bhfagham go deo
Is tá cailín spéiriúil ag fear gan Bhéarla, dubhghránna cróin.

Tá bean in Éirinn a phronnfadh séad domh is mo sháith le n-ól
Is tá bean in Éirinn is ba bhinne léithe mo ráfla ceoil
Ná seinm théad; atá bean in éirinn is níorbh fhearr léi beo
Mise ag léimnigh nó leagtha i gcré is mo thárr faoi fhód

I'm not too well versed in Irish just yet, but it's fair to say that you don't need to introduce contractions to the lyrics. It's mostly preference in singing and adjusting to the melody and tempo. (Even when I'm transcribing lyrics to my native language, I try not to put contractions because it will depend on the singer on how they'll sing the lyrics to the melody.)

I haven't listened to the song fully, but thank you for the lyrics!

Ancient Land / Lyrics for Homeland and Going Home!
« on: October 28, 2018, 04:48:37 PM »
Outlines are portions I'm unsure of. And, I also have most of the lyrics to Sive [missing Megan's verse] and Follow Me [missing half of the chorus and the chant].

Homeland

This is my homeland, my heart is here
These are the voices I long to hear
No matter how far I may roam
I have a homeland, I have a home

When the sun goes down, in the evening light
Who's like a ghost through starry night
When Sirius twinkles to hypnotise
It’s good to sit and realise

This is my homeland, my heart is here
These are the voices I long to hear
No matter how far I may roam
I have a homeland, I have a home

I love her stories, and the teller’s gift
I love the lonesome piper’s drift
No greener fields do I need to see
These simple things, they comfort me

This is my homeland, my heart is here
These are the voices I long to hear
No matter how far I may roam
I have a homeland, I have a home

If for some reason, I had to quit
This river edge where I sit
I think I’d weep for an old refrain
And never doubt the pouring rain

This is my homeland, my heart is here
These are the voices I long to hear
No matter how far I may roam
I have a homeland, I have a home

This is my homeland, my heart is here
These are the voices I long to hear
No matter how far I may roam
I have a homeland, I have a home

This is my homeland, my heart is here
These are the voices I long to hear
No matter how far I may roam
I have a homeland, I have a home

I have a homeland, I have a home
I have a homeland, I have a home

Going Home

They say there’s a place where dreams have all gone
They never said where but I think I know
It’s miles through the night, just over the dawn
On the road that will take me home

I know in my bones I’ve been before
The ground feels the same, though the land’s been torn
I’ve a long way to go, the stars tell me so
On this road that will take me home

Love waits for me ‘round the bend, leads me endlessly on
Surely summer shall find their end, and all our troubles will be gone
And I know what I’ve lost, And all that I’ve won
When the road fin'lly takes me home

And when I past thy, don’t lead me astray
Don’t try to stop me, don’t stand in my way
I’m bound for the hills where the cool waters flow
On the road that will take me home

Love waits for me ‘round the bend, leads me endlessly on
Surely summer shall find their end, and all our troubles will be gone
And I know what I’ve lost, and all that I’ve won
When the road finally takes me home

Ancient Land / Re: Garden of Eden lyrics

Thank you for this transcription!! This was one of the first songs I was drawn to when I was listening to the album previews. Have you thought of posting these in lyric sites so more people can find out about it? :o

Forum Questions & Comments / Re: Site banners? Forum themes, maybe?

Those do look really cool, Rax!  Hopefully you and Glen can work together to replace the stuff we have at the top right now.  Also, the website name doesn't have an "s" in it, it's just celticwomanforum.net.

Thank you! My bad on the forums part, but that's an easy fix.

Rax like your work the Banners look great but if you wish to  make a banner for this forum it has to have all 15 girls in it mine is not great but im not a graphic artist  and the type in the lower right of the banner is Forum type it stays there and I can't move it I can change the colors of the type and the banners you made say Forums it's just Forum.net but I really like your work. Oh ya the banners need to be 1050 x 261 pixels

Thank you! I may need help with who all the 15 girls are, and is there a particular size to the box on the lower right so I can fix that up?

Also, the banners I made are actually 1050 x 261! I just shrank them to 500 pixels in the preview so they don't take up more width space than a typical forum post has. If you want to check, here's links to the full-res images: Emerald and Believe.

Forum Questions & Comments / Site banners? Forum themes, maybe?
« on: October 25, 2018, 08:37:08 PM »
Pardon me as I get thrown back to my old forum days where I made banners/avatar sets and all that. Here's some site banners I made, inspired by different album covers! I'm not sure if it's at all possible to have forum themes, or to change the site banner at all, but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring if ever.

New Members / Hello there!
« on: October 25, 2018, 06:14:09 PM »
I've been a big fan of Celtic Woman since around "A Christmas Celebration" (when I was still in high school, I feel very young lol) and this is my first time dipping my toes and participating in the community.

"A spaceman came travelling in a ship from afar..."

My username is a mouthful (and a Doctor Who reference), so you can call me Rax! I come from a place very far away from any CW hotbeds (...the Philippines), so I tend to make do with recordings and albums because flying to see them is a far off dream that I can't afford.

CW has affected me in such a way that it has motivated me to learning Irish (through stubborn self-teaching and bugging friends who are fluent in the language). Progress is a bit far off because it's not really a language one could learn easily here, but I'm still going at it! I am a bit of a language nut, as I'm also learning Hawaiian but that's neither here nor there.

Additionally, I'm a transcriber! I've transcribed (or hunted down and pieced together lyrics in Gaeilge) several songs of "Voices of Angels" in AZlyrics, and I'm excited to do the same for "Ancient Lands" when Spotify Philippines decides to release it here.

"Good to be home to your Christmas Pipes!"

The first time I listened to Celtic Woman was during a Christmas chorale competition in high school. We were asked to sing a known Christmas piece and then one of our own arrangement. I don't think Christmas Pipes made it into our final arrangement, but we had won the competition that year! (Don't ask me when, because I likely won't remember anyway. :P)

After that I had listened to their A Christmas Celebration concert, then thought nothing of it because I was 14 and I wasn't particularly sticking to any genre or artist yet. Celtic Woman came back around in college when I was anxious and homesick (I was living alone in San Francisco for an exchange programme), and I found that only their music could calm me down. After that, I played their music on repeat on and off, and now I'm here and definitely committing to their music and community.

"Ní neart go cur le chéile."

As I've said before, I can't afford to go to any Celtic Woman concerts (unless they do a World tour and land somewhere close, like Singapore, again) but it's definitely up there on the things I want to do eventually! For now, I'll be waving flaglets in the sidelines cheering them on.

Thank you for allowing me to join the forums and I hope to continue experiencing Celtic Woman's lovely music with you all.

P.S. My favourites have been Lisa Lambe, Susan McFadden, and Éabha McMahon!
