Glenn Murphy announced that he'll be releasing an EP called Beginning. Both Sides Now (a cover of the Joni Mitchell song), was released today. Glenn sounds fantastic. Ronan produced, arranged, mixed and managed the track and the backing instrumentals are the perfect complement to Glenn's voice. This is quite a project: a history of every single public Celtic Woman concert and DVD recording.
First, some acknowledgement. I borrowed data from the old cw-ct.com website, which had some extensive records of past Celtic Woman shows. I tried to fill in some of the gaps. I also standardized the order of names in the lineup so that I could do fancy stuff like counting the number of shows each performer and lineup was in (check out the "Counts" tab in the spreadsheet).
It's been a real challenge filling in some of the early tour dates. Also, some of the venue names have changed over the years, getting updated in some sources, but not in others. Furthermore, some places that actually listed those old tour dates aren't completely accurate (some shows were added, removed, or moved after those old lists were created).
Here's what I have so far (spreadsheet attached).
It's a work in progress and could definitely use some more eyes and researchers to fix mistakes and fill in the remaining gaps.
Please avoid circulating the spreadsheet unless you know someone that's willing to help improve the accuracy of this thing. I'd rather not have different versions of this work in progress scattered all over the place.

Today's name is Ewan, meaning "young warrior."
It's pronounced like "YEW-an."
That's in contrast to Eoghan, pronounced like "Owen."

PBS shop seems to be having a huge sale right now (maybe to generate cash flow and maintain liquidity during this difficult time): https://shop.pbs.org/Lots of DVDs for only $5.99 each and 45% off spring clearance. Note, not all items are eligible for the discounts. Those items eligible for the discounts have a red banner with either: "Only $5.99" or "Extra 45% Off" Free shipping on $79 or more. Side-note: In the fine print on some of the on-sale items, it says no shipping to Canada due to limited US rights. Sigh...we get screwed up here in so many ways.

Some PBS stations are offering a Celtic Heart Kit: - Celtic Heart CD - Celtic Heart DVD (re-branded as "Celtic Heart: Time of the Trees") - Celtic Heart: Time of the Trees CD As far as I can tell, the DVD is just the previous "Celtic Heart" DVD with a new cover. Unless we hear otherwise, I don't think it has additional footage. It's curious that it promotes Mairead Nesbitt on the cover, but not Lynn. Time of the Trees, as far as I understand is a new CD. I don't yet know the track list, but I'll check for it periodically ( or I'll post it after I receive my copy ). UPDATE: Time of the Trees DVD: http://www.celticwomanforum.net/index.php?topic=926.msg5549#msg5549Time of the Trees CD: http://www.celticwomanforum.net/index.php?topic=893.msg5550#msg5550

Today's name is Ruairi (pronounced ROOR-e or RUUR-e), meaning “red-haired king,” from “ruadh” meaning red, as in the red colored hair of foxes. The anglicisation is Rory.

May 1st has come and gone and still no active listing for the DVD on Amazon. I'm guessing production got delayed due to Covid-19 or possibly they decided there was no point in releasing it right now given it doesn't have the support of the tour or extensive PBS pledge drives to back it for the forseable future.
If Ireland recovers sufficiently in time to do a DVD recording this year, it could get real interesting. We may see 2 DVD releases (Celebration and a new one) in quick succession.

Our first song of this series, An Mhaighdean Mhara (pronounced something like "Awn WHY-gee-an WHAR-a" or "Awn my-dee-an maura" depending on the dialect), means The Mermaid. I've known that for a while as a result of Méav's cover of the song. But I never bothered diving deeper into the meaning of the song. But Rebecca Winckworth came along yesterday to provide some enlightenment as well as beautiful music. Here's Rebecca explaining the story behind the song and then performing it, accompanied by lovely piano backing: https://www.facebook.com/IrelandColombia/videos/287925425542406/And here's Deirdre Shannon covering the song in a performance for Lord of the Dance, back when this song was in the set list for the show: https://youtu.be/ETXrgeORlRQ
