Thanks for the heads up. I'll take a look.

I just saw Odyssey on PBS. I won't post here. I'll have to tag my post with a spoiler alert if I review it.
I watched it last night too.

Other Musicians / Celtic Thunder tour dates are here.
« on: March 17, 2024, 06:37:36 PM »
It's a second year of Odyssey. They say "more dates to be added" but I don't see a lot of room in the September 10--November 18 time frame. Unless it'll go past 11/18??? Is it possible that the cities they went to last year will be skipped
I have not been to see Celtic Thunder in several years. The last (and only) tour I went to was the second christmas symphony tour (The one that had Neil, Ryan, Damian, Emmett, Michael).
I would love to have gone last year but for personal reasons I couldn't.

I got to see them live this week for the first time!

Apparently it's the first time they've toured in Ontario, Canada in their 39 year history. I didn't fact-check that, but if true, that's crazy!

2 of the original members (Joanie Madden and Mary Coogan) performed in the show. Joanie is funny and there was plenty of banter between the music. The show was pretty fun. They had a variety of instruments: tin whistle, flute, guitar, fiddle, piano, and an accordion. They also had not one, but TWO small groups of Irish dancers: one that tour with then, and one that was local.

There were plenty of fun tune sets, one of my favourites being one of their most popular originals, The Cat's Meow.

The credentials of the performers on that stage was astonishing. The violinist performed with Riverdance. Multiple dancers had won world championships.

Celtic Woman got a brief mention: before intermission, they pleaded with people to follow them on Facebook, or if they weren't liking the show, they could go follow the Celtic Woman instead. Lol. Sure, it was a light-hearted bit of shade, but hey, if it got just one person in that audience to follow Celtic Woman that didn't already love them, I'm ok with it.

Brendan Graham also got a shoutout as part of an introduction to introduction to Isle of Hope. That arrangement was incredible! I believe Kate Purcell was the singer / guitarist. It was refreshing hearing the songs performed with a strong, authentic Irish folksy style, very different than the way they're performed in Celtic Woman. It was really effective, especially with Joanie singing harmony.

I got a brief meet with Joanie after the show. I was about as chatty as usual. I might have gotten a sentence out before someone else butted in. Lol. It's fine, they've had fans there waiting 39 years to see them live (as well as a surprising number who travelled to see the show). I did get a signed CD for my efforts though.

They were also selling USB sticks with a ton of their music on it: Cherished Favorites, it was cleverly titled. I've got many hours of new music to listen to now.

I have seen them twice. Joanie Madden is definitely hilarious.

Their FB post from 5 days ago says the Odyssey special is airing on PBS this spring. And the 4 of them in the promo includes Ronan and still no Ryan.
Ryan said he's "back to working" so maybe when any tour news comes out we will hear his future.
I've only been once to see Celtic Thunder as a full group and would love to go again

Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Re: Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour

Obviously COVID changed everything.

Going back maybe 10 years ago, I was at a M&G in Tampa, FL.  Had a post-show reception sponsored by the PBS station.  Wine!!!  Chloe and Mairead were sitting behind a table signing things.  I was one of the last ones in line (hey, wine!).  When I got to the table, Chloe recognized me, got up and walked around the table to give me a hug.  PBS lady running the M&G about had a heart attack.  Then, Mairead did the same thing.
A RECEPTION!!!!!!! WOW. They must've only done it on that particular tour.

Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Re: Susan
« on: February 19, 2024, 05:34:12 PM »
Well it looks like they wanted to have original members on the special. I'm hoping for a lot more special guests on the 25th anniversary! '25' is a BIG deal for other shows, musicals, etc.

I would love to see Susan sub in during the upcoming tour, as she has done before. And it's on my wish list that she does it on the day I have a M&G. I can wish - right? :P
I have a feeling Celtic Woman WILL be doing a 25th anniversary tour/special -- they've done 10, 15 (but halted by COVID) & 20.

I have a meet and greet on March 1st in Fort Lauderdale and I'll let you guys know how they do them this year. Can't wait to see this tour!

OK. Thanks!

I saw CW shows on two different PBS stations today.
- One ad says "M&G with two of the ladies".
- One ad says "Meet and take photos with a few members".
Were the tickets for different shows?? Is it possible some venues will do them differently than others??

So a package showed up today from the Fort Myers, FL PBS station.  Key paragraph:

This meet and greet will be a signature and photo op experience, we want to provide you with the best experience possible however we are at the mercy of and must adhere to each venue's specific requirements and constraints in terms of space backstage and the time allotted.

My 2nd M&G was in Fort Myers back in 2009.  It was after the show.  They had it in a room somewhere backstage.  Even had coffee and cookies while waiting for the girls -- in this case Chloe & Mairead.  My daughter was with me. She was 16 at the time.  She was very shy.  Chloe did an absolutely wonderful job of putting her at ease!  Over the years, we met Chloe a lot.  She always remembered us.  Several times when I was by myself, she even asked about my daughter.

Did another M&G in 2013.  Same venue.  The photo op was in a stairwell!!
Have some M&G locations depended on the type of venue that the show is in??? For example I did a M&G in 2017. I attended the show at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester MN. Mayo Civic Center is a multiroom building and had just completed renovations. Part of the renovation meant some moving of the box offices (there are more than 1). There are three performing spaces. A large auditorium where our local Eagles club has a 20 hour telethon every January which I try to attend often and have also attended The Price is Right Live, Anne Murray, Four Tonic Sol Fa concerts, Under the Streetlamp, Beatles vs. Stones among others, a smaller theater type room called the Presentation Hall where I've seen local ballets and also a lot of lower key musical acts such as Judy Collins, Peter Yarrow, a tribute to John Denver, Art Garfunkel, Home Free, Tonic Sol Fa, Oak Ridge Boys, Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt to name a few (often the type of room someone might choose if they come with either a small band, minimal production or no band at all) and an arena which is where Celtic Woman has come three times (I attended the latter two shows that came and have also seen Steve Martin & Martin Short, Sesame Street Live, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, A Prairie Home Companion, a screening with Ken Burns and Jim Gaffigan among other things). On Meet & Greet Day the way it worked was got the passes from one of the box offices, came back after a while, escorted into one of the newer built rooms off to the side, venue staff went and got the ladies and they lined up: this show it went Eabha, Tara, Susan and Mairead. The way I did it was went one by one, shaking hands and saying hello before taking a picture.
Do they always do front row seats???

Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Re: How many on here???
« on: February 16, 2024, 11:32:21 AM »
I went to 3 back to back to back shows in 2020; all in Florida.  Had a couple more later in other states.  About a week after the last show was when they canceled everything.  But, they were going to "finish" the tour in 2021, so I kept my tickets.  As we know, that didn't happen either!

So in 2022, I went to 2 "canceled" shows from 2020 (out of State) plus 2 more local shows.  Ended up the year with one Christmas show.

Are you going this year?

When are you going besides Ft. Lauderdale & Minneapolis??

Thought I would post an update, and not a good one.

My CD and DVD left Dublin (they added tracking for free) and has been stuck in Frankfurt since January 31st.

CW store isn't being any help. I'm going to wait after the 13th to see if it arrives and if not, raise some hell.
So probably scream and curse at customer service???

I'm guessing it's cause MC couldn't find someone to fill her shoes on the tour for these dates

Is there a way to delete them from the calender?

I deleted the one I posted in the calendar.

It might have something to do with Ronan & Celtic Thunder. But I'm not sure what the CT schedule looks like next month.
I bet it does. Wonder if CT is going back to five with Ronan the 5th.

Gregg & I have definitely put a lot of money into this, but we love it with all our hearts and it's worth every penny! We both have good jobs that we are paid very well for and we don't have kids, so no childcare expenses. We are world travelers and the vast majority of the time we plan our travels based on the concerts we want to attend. The biggest hindrance for us is the number of vacation days we have, of which I am currently loaded but Gregg's is more limited. We love everything we're able to do and we have such a blast!
The Minneapolis show is on a Tuesday this time around so I hope to.
Ancient land, Postcards from Ireland and this latest Christmas tour were Saturdays so that made it easy.
I feel the 7:00 start time is on purpose
