Megan Ruby Walsh / Nickname for Megan's fans
« on: August 18, 2018, 12:52:43 PM »
I'll tweak David's suggestion a bit and put forth Megnificent as a nickname for Megan. ;)

But now that we've had a few days to process the exciting news that the Megnificent Megan Walsh has joined Celtic Woman, it's time to come up for a nickname for her fans (or find an existing one, if you can).

Celtic Woman fans have found some really creative ways of naming themselves over the years. To name a few:

Meaviacs
Sharpies
McManiacs / McMahoniacs / McFans
Lisaholics
Chlovers

There were some decent ones that never caught on but probably should have, like:

Nesbuds
Mermaireads
Fallon's Followers
Shanfans
Lisa's Lamb's / Lisa's Lambe's
Taradactyl's (lol, I liked it)

Now, it's time for us to add to the tradition!

Megan Ruby Walsh / Megan's EP (2014)
« on: August 17, 2018, 05:25:22 PM »
In one of her radio interviews (https://youtu.be/kl3WNDg3RTc) about half way through, the host mentions that Megan just recorded an EP (in 2014), featuring O Holy Night and The Lord's Prayer.

If anyone finds the songs from the EP or where I can buy it, please post here.

Thanks!

Celtic Woman / Wikipedia
« on: August 16, 2018, 11:37:12 PM »
I made updates on the main Celtic Woman Wikipedia page for the following:

- Johnstown Castle TV special / DVD announcement
- New studio album announcement
- Best of Christmas Tour announcement
- Announcement of Susan's leave (updated current members, former members, and timeline)
- Announcement of new member Megan Walsh (updated current members and timeline)

At some point, I'm going to have to reorganize and reformat the information on that page as it's become sort of a messy patchwork of different styles and partially updated information over the years. There's many things in the article that aren't currently done according to Wikipedia's standards. Satisfying their auditors is pretty difficult, but upsetting them is generally not a good idea.

Here's Megan's Website!

https://www.meganrubywalsh.com/about

Here's a little bit of info about Megan.

Career

- Megan is a classically trained soprano
- She started training classically around 2010
- But she's performed many different genres

- She started performing when she was very young and she's always wanted to be a professional singer (specifically, an opera singer)

- She studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music

- She also studied at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London
- There were up to 700 people vying to get in and she was one of only 4 people accepted!

- Also got a Certificate in Acting Performance with Irish Board of Speech and Drama

- She can sing in Italian, German, French, English, and Czech (presumably in Gaelic soon)

- When she was 17, she won The Soloist in 2014 (the year before Tara was a semi-finalist)
- As a result, she got to perform in places like the US with with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI)

- Her first time to America, she performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. Not a bad way to debut.

- She's performed in a number of other prestigious venues, including:
* The Oddysey (Belfast)
* The RDS (Dublin)
* The National Concert Hall (Dublin)
* The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and the National Convention Centre, (Dublin)
* The Helix (Dublin) ... Celtic Woman has some history there  ;)

- After returning to Ireland, she performed with the CBOI for 2 years as a soloist

- She's also played several prominent roles in musicals, including:
* Cosette (Les Miserables)
* Mary Magdalene (Jesus Christ Superstar)
* Tracy (Hairspray)
* Gabriella (High School Musical)
* Grizabella (Cats)

- She was the 2015 holder of the Arklow Challenge Cup and the Kerryman's Association Lieder Cup (Arklow Music Festival 2015)

- She's done lots of charity / fund raising events, including:
* Irish Rugby Football Union's Charitable Trust
* 'Lily Mae' charity (Tiny Dancer)

Personal

- Megan is from Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland, but she was born in Durban, South Africa.
- She lived in London for a while while attending the Royal Academy of Music
- At the time of her announcement with Celtic Woman, she is only 21 years of age.

- She's the youngest of 7 siblings
- She has 4 brothers and 2 sisters

- She also goes by Megan Ruby Walsh or sometimes Megan Ruby.
- There are a few other people with the name Megan Walsh, including an American singer.
- "Ruby" probably helped her distinguish herself online.

FAQ:

Q: What is Megan Walsh's birthday?

A: February 19

Q: Where is Megan from?

A: Megan is from Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland, but she was born in Durban, South Africa.

Q: What is Megan Walsh's charity of choice?

A: Megan would be grateful if her fans supported cancer research charities. Those are especially meaningful to her because both her dad and her sister have been affected by cancer in the past. Megan has also done work for a number of charities in the past, including the Irish Rugby Football Union's Charitable Trust and the 'Lily Mae' charity.

Q: When was Megan announced as a member of Celtic Woman?

A: August 16th, 2018

Susan McFadden / Thank You Susan
« on: August 12, 2018, 11:12:20 AM »
Susan McFadden thank you for all your lovely music with Celtic Woman and in your #17weeks17songs project during the Destiny tour. Thank you as well for your warm presence on stage, and for being so nice to me at the two Meet and Greets I was lucky enough to attend.

I only got to see you live six times with Celtic Woman (so far, anyways) and met you only twice, but I can honestly say that those experiences were among my most cherished.  I will always remember the first time I saw you live on stage and the rush of emotions as I ran over to you excitedly during my first M+G.  No matter what the future holds, know that I will always be one of your fans.

Soon, you're going to be the Sky, the Dawn, and the Sun for someone opening their eyes on the world for the first time.  As you get ready to welcome that new life, I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for changing mine.

Congratulations to you and Anto!

Lisa Lambe / Lisa's Exciting Announcements
« on: August 08, 2018, 05:59:18 PM »
Lisa Lambe apparently has some exciting announcements for us this month!

Source:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BmO_7dMhtEc/?taken-by=lisalambe

I'm curious to see if the long-awaited release of the album she worked on at Killruddery a couple of years ago is one of them.

I'm hoping she comes back to do a show in North America too, but with the Celtic Woman Johnstown Castle shows, Lisa Kelly's yet to be announced show around Peachtree City, and the anticipated CaraNua tour, I'm not sure an expensive excursion back to New York is going to be practical this year for me. Never say never, though. If CaraNua and Lisa Lambe do a show near the same place around the same time, I might just be able to see both.

The last performance of Jimmy's Hall currently listed is in September (https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/jimmys-hall/). So she could be available to do other things pretty soon.  ;)

Celtic Woman / What's in your Celtic Woman CD / DVD collection?
« on: July 25, 2018, 12:59:05 AM »
What physical CDs and DVDs (and how many CDs and DVDs) do you have in your Celtic Woman collection?

It can include items from Celtic Woman, solo works, and from performers currently or previously associated with Celtic Woman as lead performers, guests, choir, etc.

It can also include "fringe works" (in other words, works that have one or more performers currently or previously associated with Celtic Woman, but they're not one of the primary artists on the album or only perform on a few tracks).

It can be a complete list if you wish, or just some items of interest.

Here's my list. It's certainly not a complete collection, but I think it's pretty respectable...

Lynn Hilary / Babylon Sisters
« on: July 19, 2018, 09:08:40 PM »
With today's news of Lisa Nolan joining CaraNua, it seems like a good time to mention the Babylon Sisters.

Babylon Sisters was a female vocal group comprised of Lynn Hilary, Lisa Nolan, and Rebecca Winckworth. The group covered songs across a wide variety of genres, from classical to pop to heavy metal and anything in between. The group was known for their a cappella singing and complex harmonies.

The group was somewhat short-lived (about a year) and disbanded when Rebecca left to tour with Celtic Nights, and Lynn left to tour with Riverdance.

The group released one self-titled EP in 2013, consisting of the following tracks:

1. Moondance
2. Off the Wall
3. God Only Knows
4. I Wish
5. Touch My Heart

Touch My Heart was the only a cappella track on the EP. It sounds quite lovely and it happens to be my personal favourite from the group.

Here are some links if you want to check out more of their content and videos from when the group was active:

Massive Celtic Woman news today!

https://www.facebook.com/celticwoman/videos/10156533729192838/

We’ve been enjoying a bit of time off since our tour finished in June but have lots of exciting news on the horizon!

The first bit of news to share is that we will be filming a brand new tv special against the backdrop of the enchanting Johnstown Castle in county Wexford, Ireland. This will be the first big outdoor concert special that Celtic Woman has filmed since 2009’s Songs From The Heart.

Although the concert will not be on sale, we will have an invited audience there on the night. We will be offering a selected amount of complimentary tickets to our dedicated followers. To register your interest please email castle@celticwoman.ie
