Ancient Land on Tour / Re: 2019 Tour
« on: October 17, 2018, 10:53:04 PM »
Looks like I'll be doing 2 shows for starters (3 if they add Red Rocks later).

There are more shows well within reasonable driving range (< 7 hours), but they're all during the middle of the week and too far away to drive back home after the show. So extra shows would mean spending vacation days as essentially driving days.

Normally I wouldn't mind but considering how many vacation days I'm going to need next year, I've got to hold some in reserve:
- Lisa Kelly spring show + maybe a Christmas show next year too
- Multiple Chloë shows (probably 3)
- Red Rocks
- CaraNua? (fingers still crossed)
- Amy Rivard show, somewhere

And that's a lot of vacation days required just for those and that's assuming nothing else crazy happens next year like another Celtic Woman DVD recording.

The mini-roadie trip always seems like a good idea until I actually think about the practicality of it.

There's still a chance they could add shows, later that I could get to, but most likely the additional shows will be mid-west, west coast, and east coast, not close enough to drive to.

Caranua / Re: CaraNua: Voices of Evermore
« on: October 17, 2018, 05:23:35 PM »
Back on October 12th, CaraNua announced they were working on a new recording project. They didn't specify if it will be related to Evermore or something else. But considering their mention of sirens in the post, I think it's a fair bet it's fantasy-related and probably for Evermore.

Recording this week for another exciting project.. Capturing the sounds of sirens isn’t always easy.. helps to get “in the zone”

the show in Utah is on March 29

That's funny, because when I look at the list now I do not see any Ancient Land shows in Utah, Tom.  On March 29 they are doing a show in New Hampshire.

The Rosemont, IL show is on a Sunday afternoon and it is right near O'Hare airport, so flying to Chicago for the weekend would be an easy option.  (And I have lots of family there.)

I do not see Las Vegas on the list, but I see a few places near me that have weekend shows: Phoenix on a Friday night, Long Beach the next Saturday, and Thousand Oaks the next Sunday afternoon.  If I spend a weekend in California I could see the latter two shows, which are both in the Los Angeles area.

Looks like they were adjusting some of the venues / dates throughout the afternoon.

Yeah, that Utah show isn't there anymore.

Ancient Land tour dates posted!!!!

https://www.celticwoman.com/tour-dates/

There's only 1 show in Canada next year (nowhere close to me), but there are a few shows that are close enough for me to get to and they almost always have M+Gs for those venues.

Something seems weird about this list so far though...

1) There's only 64 dates listed so far as of the time I checked (much less than the ~90 on a usual full tour)
- Maybe they haven't finished putting up the list yet for today's announcement
- Or maybe they're going to post / announce more later, maybe even a longer international tour next year

2) There's some venues listed twice on completely different weeks of the same tour

3) There's venues they're returning to this year that they just visited on the Homecoming tour
- One of those venues works out very well for me, but it makes very little sense for them to go back there in consecutive years
- The turnout is always low for those shows and the crowd there isn't very enthusiastic (I've already seen 2 Celtic Woman shows at that venue, so I know what it's going to be like)

There's quite a few shows I could potentially get to, but only if I do like a mini-roadie trip and follow the tour bus for a week or so. Most of the shows I can get to are mid-week. I can really only get to 2 shows from here without basically booking a whole week off and following the bus (which I might end up doing).

For those of us potentially planning to go to Utah to see CaraNua, the show in Utah is on March 29, which is unlikely to overlap with any CaraNua tour. :(

Georgia show is on March 9, which likely wouldn't be near the time of Lisa Kelly's spring show.

But hopefully there's some shows near everyone here on the forum so we can all enjoy at least one show!

Celtic Woman is teasing a big announcement for tomorrow:

My guess would be the 2019 (Ancient Land) tour.

I went with One More Day (absolutely awesome), Crucan Na Bpaiste (devastatingly beautiful), and Follow the Heron (soothing and pretty).

That's encouraging.

I suspect I just didn't send it for my test account but I'm not sure what happened to the other approval.

The task logs get pruned after a few days so I'm not sure if there was any approval notification issues on October 6th when mattycakes got added. But for the past week or so, the forum's been logging approval notification tasks on schedule, so at least that part seems ok.

Let's keep an eye on it.

I put a note on the old forum for people to contact one of us if they have trouble registering or logging in.

Here's Megan's performance of Ellis Island (Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears) at Carnegie Hall after she won The Soloist: https://youtu.be/0dTIdFeetEk

... And here's her performance of the theme from The Phantom of the Opera

She's a young Angel of Music spreading her wings in this one. What a voice!

My goodness, that ending is breathtaking!

Hey Glen,

Do we know if there's any issue with the forum or its hosting company sending out email confirmations once new accounts are approved?

It's sending out private messages and initial registration confirmations ok, but after people are approved by one of us, I'm not sure if they're always getting an email to say they're account has been approved.

My test account I made a couple of weeks ago didn't get an approval confirmation email and one of the other recent registrants didn't get one either.

Thanks.

I've been glancing at a few of the photos of people that have been to Evermore so far.

I think quite a few people are going in costumes (not everyone, of course).

I don't cosplay at all and wouldn't even be capable of making a costume that resembles anything cool. For crying out loud, I haven't even had a Halloween costume in about 15 years. I guess I'd either have to scramble together something really quickly (I'm guessing we won't get more than a few months notice before a CaraNua tour) or just be one of the un-cool people going in street clothes and awkwardly pretending to be part of the Evermore realm. Lol.

Forum Questions & Comments / Re: Board icon for forum calendar?

ok your image was better then the one I found so it is switched

Thanks!

I ended up just taking a picture of the front cover with my phone and cropping it to a square.

I'll definitely be getting the 2019 calendar when it releases (I'm guessing it will be available around Thanksgiving when the PBS special debuts). I'll hopefully get it before January and I can send a picture of the cover.

I can switch that but I need the image if you have one post it and I will switch it out. It's easy to switch 1 icon but  switching 83 is a different story

Haha. Fair enough.

Will one of these work out ok?

Forum Questions & Comments / Board icon for forum calendar?
« on: October 13, 2018, 08:22:56 PM »
I had a cool thought (well, I thought it was cool because I'm not the one making all the icons and getting them to work) ...

What if we had a picture of the cover of the current Celtic Woman calendar as the board icon for the calendar on the forum? I think it's a little much to be rotating the picture every month, but one change a year should be manageable.

Ancient Land on Tour / Re: 2019 Tour

I've sat mostly in the first 2 or 3 rows.  If I'm spending money on flights, hotels, food, car might as well get good seats.  I think I spent $200 for row 3 center last time.  Plane was like $400 and hotel is at least $150.  At least the Coors tour is free and they give out samples!

Nice!

I was debating whether to get seats a little bit further back just for Red Rocks. I was talking to some people at the castle show who have been to red rocks a few times and suggested about half way up the seats so you can take in the stage and its surroundings. I think I'd rather still get seats at the front though, if I can. My eyesight isn't the greatest these days. I could barely see Celtic Thunder on stage from a balcony seat earlier this month and Celtic Woman is something I'd rather be able to see well. Any group I didn't care so much about I would probably sit further back to take in the rocks, but for my favorite ladies, only the best.

The good news is if I don't end up getting amazing seats (on account of them all being sold by the time I find out about them), I'd still be pretty happy at that particular venue.
