Celtic Woman / Re: Songs You Wish Celtic Woman Would Perform
« on: July 30, 2019, 10:31:30 PM »
I thought of another one: Grace

The ballad was written by Frank and Seán O'Meara in 1985. It tells of the tragic romance of Joseph Plunkett and Grace Gifford. They were married in Kilmainham Gaol just hours before Plunkett was put to death for his role in the Easter Rising. Plunkett gave is life for the Cause of Irish Freedom. As Chloë puts it when she introduces the song at her shows, it's a story of how the love of your life can equal the love of your land.  A song both beautiful and incredibly devastating, this is Grace:

The Magic of Christmas 2019 Tour / Re: Best of Christmas 2019 tour
« on: July 29, 2019, 05:24:17 PM »
Saturday, December 14th in Atlanta is already on sale on ticketmaster:

https://www1.ticketmaster.com/celtic-womanthe-best-of-christmas-with-the-atlanta-symphony-orchestra/event/0E0056478251199A

Fellow Forumites,

I wanted to let you know that PBA (the Atlanta PBS station) is offering, as "Thank You" gifts for donations, PIT tickets with M&G passes for the Celtic Woman's December 14, 2019 Best of Christmas Concert with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

https://www.callswithoutwalls.com/pledgeCart3/?campaign=C0C4C989-52E1-45AD-9449-29C659B65EEF&source=&source=#/home

This link will take you to the PBA "Thank You" gifts website.  Here's where it gets a little confusing - Under "Gifts List", towards the bottom of the page, select "Celtic Woman - Ancient Land" under the "Search by Program" drop-down menu.

Be well,

Bob

Thanks!

I really wish I knew the rest of the Christmas tour schedule and Chloë's schedule before they had done this. If I go to this and it doesn't line up perfectly with a Lisa Kelly or Chloë show in Georgia like the day before or after, I'm probably not seeing either one of those two until next year.

M+G pair with pit seats is $500. I wonder what the $1000 VIP tickets are? Hotel, Dinner, Parking, Pit tickets, and M+G it looks like. Like ... dinner with the girls for that price? It's not dinner with the girls, I'm very sure ... just saying, that's quite a bit of money.

Songs from the Heart / Songs from the Heart Recording Anniversary
« on: July 28, 2019, 11:42:34 PM »
10 years ago on July 28th, Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart was recorded at Powerscourt.

Of all the Celtic Woman DVDs, Songs from the Heart was perhaps the most spectacular. The grounds, the Powerscourt house, the impressive array of lighting, the fireworks ... it was all visually stunning to watch on screen. The most amazing aspect, of course, were the ladies on stage in their stunning gowns, dazzling us with their gorgeous music. Lisa Kelly, Chloë, Alex, Lynn and Mairead Nesbitt were an impressive lineup.

Songs from the Heart is one of my go-to DVDs (A New Journey being the other) for introducing a new prospective fan to Celtic Woman. If someone doesn't love at least something from that magnificent production, they're probably never going to feel about the group like I do.

Last year, I finally got to see Powerscourt for myself. It was surreal to stand where they stood, to looking out across those gardens at the distant Wicklow Mountains. I imagined what it would have been like to be in that audience the night those lovely ladies and their team made one of my all-time-favourite concert DVDs.

As amazing as it was to be there, in that place, it didn't quite as overwhelmingly special as I had expected it to. The grounds were quite parched from the unusually dry summer. But it was more than that. I felt a bit out of place in time. It wasn't Powerscourt that was special to me but rather the magic that Celtic Woman made there. It was their music and the people that made it that eventually made a difference in my life and though all of those ladies were in my heart, Powerscourt still felt empty without them up on stage.

Fortunately, I got to be a part of the Ancient Land recording at Johnstown Castle a few days later and that somewhat eased the pain of having missed out on so many special things Celtic Woman did before I followed them as closely as I do now.

Of those lovely leading ladies in Songs from the Heart, I have met only Chloë, Mairead, and Lynn and although I've seen Lisa Kelly perform live, I have never had the privilege of meeting her. As I write this, I have yet to ever see the amazing Alex Sharpe in person.

Songs from the Heart was some of Celtic Woman's finest work. I am so grateful to those on and off the stage who made that show as special as it was. Happy Anniversary, Songs from the Heart and thank you for all the joy you continue to bring into my life.

Celtic Woman / Songs You Wish Celtic Woman Would Perform
« on: July 26, 2019, 06:14:07 PM »
Which songs do you wish Celtic Woman would perform as an official Celtic Woman song?

It can be a song a current or former member has performed separately from the group or it can be a song no Celtic Woman member has ever covered. It just can't be a song that Celtic Woman has already performed.

Here are a few on my list:

Strength
From Secret Garden's new album, Storyteller. It's got more of a Celtic Thunder vibe, but with the right arrangement, this could be a really powerful Celtic Woman song.

Fields of Athenry
Mairead, Eabha, and Glenn&Ronan have covered it to name a few, but to my knowledge it has not been performed as an official Celtic Woman song

Raglan Road
My favourite versions so far are Susan's #17weeks17songs cover and Meav's cover from Divinas: Live At Chambord Castle, but I'd be really curious to hear what Gavin Murphy and the girls could do with this song as a group harmony number.

Song for Ireland
Although Deirdre's cover was outstanding, I can't even imagine how gorgeous this would sound with the harmony the current group is capable of.

The Town that I Loved So Well
A song about Derry, so this would be a Mairead Carlin song. I think there are lots of better songs for her voice, but if they were going to do this song, I'd love to hear her sing it.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
They run an instrumental recording of it frequently before or after almost every Celtic Woman concert so they might as well cover it in earnest.

Wild Mountain Thyme

Never Be the Sun
A song by Donagh Long. One of my favorite songs that Orla Fallon has covered. Imagine Eabha and her haunting voice performing this. This powerful song performed with the resonance and depth of Eabha's voice would be quite honestly overwhelming. There would be a 100% chance of me being in tears.

What are some of the songs on your list?

Lisa Lambe appears in the music video for "Desperate Days" (Side 4 Collective, featuring Josh Ritter):

Chloë was recently signed by the VenuWorks Agency:

Nathan Carter is signed to the same agency. The two have done shows together before and have a bunch of shows coming up later this year, mostly in Branson, Missouri.

Feminine form: Ciara (pronounced KEY-rah)

It means "dark," "little dark one," or "little dark-haired one."

Caranua / Re: Favorite Hymns II
« on: July 25, 2019, 05:37:07 PM »
This article is hardly new, but it has some information that may be of interest:

https://www.standard.net/lifestyle/faith/jason-tonioli-teams-with-irish-vocalists-for-seventh-cd/article_9aefbdf2-75ae-5041-854a-d627d146eaf9.html

Apparently they recorded enough music for 3 CDs (23 songs over a two week period).

Favorite Hymns, of course, was released.

The second album, “Heal the World" was initially scheduled for release in spring 2018. A year and a half later, I don't think it's been released yet. I'm not sure if the delay is related to Edel's departure from the group last year or not.

The planned title of the third album was not mentioned.

Chuck E. Myers apparently did some of the orchestration. He's also the composer for the Evermore Park soundtracks (Magical Lore and Cursed Lore).
