Celtic Woman / Re: If you had to pick 1 Dance Number
« on: September 12, 2019, 06:03:45 PM »
Bean Phaidin 2019. If I could have voted for it 5 times, I would have.

She's currently holding on to 1st place!

Voting for this round ends tonight at 8 PM PDT.

Mairead Nesbitt / Re: Soltice: Mairead Nesbitt Jewlery Line

Here's a pic (attached) of one of the items in the line.

Someone teasing Edel backstage at Riverdance (attached).

I wonder how long it will before she returns the favor.

Chloë's above $35,000 USD with 147 backers.

19 days left.

Unless some big backers are holding off until late in her campaign I think getting to $100k is going to be really tough. But every little bit helps her to make her new albums with all the bells and whistles she's dreamed of. I'm sure she'll put all the extra to excellent use as well.

921
I donated her another 100 votes via MusiCares (it was another 2-for-1 day).

She's in first for now.

But it's hard to tell how relevant the positioning is. Last time she was in first, there were allegedly automated (bot) votes that they ended up voiding.

Voting for this round ends Thursday at 8:00 PM PDT. If she finishes in 1st, the moves on to the semifinal group stage where the vote counts start over.

The winner of each semifinal group moves into a 16-entrant head-to-head finals tournament, so up to 4 more rounds of voting (5 including the semifinal groups). Lol.

922
She's back in first for now, but we still need all the votes we can muster to keep her there.

If she drops back into second, I suppose I'll fire a third-barrel of donation votes to try to get her back into first, but would prefer not to have to do that a third time in this round. Lol.

923
Amy remains in second with just over 3 days to go.

I don't know what the magnitude of the difference is between her and first, but I think she's going to need every vote we can muster.

A couple of years ago, I would have dreaded this would become another "retreated tour." But the new arrangements of old songs on VoA were really good and the new arrangements of old songs on the Ancient Land tour were phenomenal.

I hope they bring back some old ones we haven't heard in a while with incredible new arrangements and maybe give Amazing Grace and Danny Boy a rest for a while. There are so many other good songs to choose from that haven't been overdone to the point of absurdity.

Celebration: The 15th Anniversary Tour / Re: Celebration Speculation
« on: September 09, 2019, 05:48:02 PM »
Original: The Soft Goodbye. The incredibly clear harmony the current lineup and Gavin Murphy can achieve would be so amazing for this song.
A New Journey: The Last Rose Of Summer (as a duet between Mairead and Megan) ... yeah, I agree with you mattycakes, this one needs to happen. BUT, I have to pick a second one: Beyond the Sea. I'm not sure how you could possibly make that arrangement any better, but that's one of my top 10 all-time, so I have to wish for it.
Songs From The Heart: The Call. The more I listened to the version from SftH over the years, the more I started to think they left a lot on the table with that arrangement. It was good, but it could have been so much more. I imagine a brand new arrangement with crystal clear harmony and strong base like they achieved in the VoA O America arrangement. I'd be pretty happy with Carolina Rua by Mairead though too.
Lullaby: Goodnight My Angel as either a 2 or 3-part harmony and Tara on violin. Mairead and Megan on vocals and possibly Eabha as well.
Believe: A Woman's Heart. This one took a lot of thought because I think there are many excellent possibilities to choose from Believe. I think the current lineup could do an incredible job with this one.
Destiny: My Land. Susan's soothing voice was pretty much perfect for this song, so I'm a little hesitant on this one. Megan's voice might come in a little strong. Still, it's one of my ultimate life-changer songs, so if they re-arranged it right, it would be amazing.
Voices Of Angels: O, America
Ancient Land: Bean Pháidín ... believe it or not, this one was the hardest. I wanted to pick an old ceili song from one of the other albums, but I couldn't think of a better one in the long history history of great ceili songs by Celtic Woman, so I had to go with this one.

Not easy choices.

My initial reactions were Sing Out and The Soft Goodbye, both of which are probably in my all-time top 10.

But "Sing Out" (probably top 3 all-time for me) worked not just because it a really, REALLY fun song to listen to, but because it had really effective choir backing. That's not likely to be something they can replicate on tour these days and the their are other songs that are better choices for the current lineup. I think you'd have to roll out Lisa Kelly, Chloë, Alex, Meav, and a full choir at minimum to pull that off on tour and let's be honest, not even the full choir is a likely.

I went with The Soft Goodbye and picked Finale/Mo Ghile Mear and Walking The Night/The World Falls Away as the other two.

Personally, I'd prefer they keep Tara doing separate songs from Mairead Nesbitt. They have different styles and there are better choices for Tara and her style.

Regardless of the songs they end up choosing, I hope the use mostly new arrangements. Those Classic Celtic Woman arrangements were written mostly for 3-4 soprano singers with different strengths than the current lineup. I think all the fresh arrangements on Ancient Land were a resounding success for me (save for the horrendous, offensively bad mixing job on one of the Deluxe album tracks) and I hope they go in that direction with whatever songs they choose.

Amy's back in second for now. I think a few of her votes came from automated voting programs instead of people, so they nullified those votes.

I added another 40 votes via MusiCares donation. She's still in second, but hopefully it gets her closer.

Other Musicians / Re: Mary Bee
« on: September 07, 2019, 08:11:44 PM »
Just over a year ago, Mary Bee set out on an adventure to Europe called "Finding Harmony." The first stop on her journey was Ireland (just a few weeks before I arrived on my trip to see Ancient Land at Johnstown Castle)!

The web-docu series follows singer and host, Mary, as she makes friends with artists in different countries. She gets to know them, collaborates on a song or two with each artist, and they sing together in harmony. The Series focuses on the love of music, and friendships grown during collaboration.

Her goal is to inspire and eventually, tangibly contribute to music programs around the world.

Season #1 finished airing a few months ago and I turned out really well! I'm so proud of her and it's an honor to support her.

You can enjoy her web series on YouTube and also on Facebook.

Amy is in 2nd now, but she  needs to finish 1st to advance to the semifinals!

Free vote once every 24 hours, but if you donate to MusicCares now, you get 2 votes for every dollar (normally it's just one vote per dollar).

Celtic Culture / Re: Name of the Day

Sorcha

Looks simple, doesn't it?

It's apparently pronounced sor+aka or surk+ha.

It's an Irish girl's name. Similar to Niamh, it means bright, radiant, or light.
