The "Other" David Downes
There's another David Downes in the music industry and the two sometimes get confused on discography sites, retail sites, etc.
The other David Downes is:
- From New Zealand (not Ireland)
- Associated with White Cloud Records (not Celtic Collections)
To make things more confusing the Ireland David Downes was involved with "Christmas Carols by the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral" (2008). The title refers to a cathedral in Dublin, not the city of Christchurch (or the Christ Church cathedral therin) in New Zealand where Hayley Westenra is from. David Downes (from Ireland, not from New Zealand) did work with Hayley (from New Zealand) on a couple of her albums.
Here are some of the works of the "other" (New Zealand) David Downes:
Saltwater (1994)
White Cloud Sampler, Vol. 1 (1995)
Gathering
The Rusted Wheel of Things
Sinfonie New Zealand (1995)
Pavilion (1995)
The Rusted Wheel of Things (1995)
Because of the Rain (James Wilkinson) (1998)
From the Mists of Time (2000)
Shadow of a Cloud
Sanctuary

I suspect that Celtic Moods (Fir Na Keol: David Downes + David Agnew) and Lift the Wings (David Agnew) are the same album.
The track listing is the same for both albums.
It's odd that a lot of the major discography sites don't seem to make this connection (neither album is listed as a release variant of the other).
-
A Celtic Christmas (aka An Irish Christmas) was released by David Agnew and then re-released under the same name by Fir Na Keol. They have different covers, but they're the same album (identical track listing) and were both released under Celtic Collections.

The Very Best of the Oboe, featuring David Agnew, is a compilation of Fir Na Keol songs. It's most or all of their songs, except for the Christmas ones. So if you're interested but have trouble tracking down a reasonably priced and legitimate copy the actual Fir Na Keol albums, The Very Best of the Oboe from Celtic Collections is a good alternative to get their songs.
