Other Musicians / Re: Celtic Thunder: Odyssey Tour *** SPOILERS ***
« on: October 31, 2023, 09:13:19 AM »
So my Facebook feed said there was a CT concert in my area Sunday night.  Since my wife and daughter had previous plans (BeetleJuice), I thought I would consider going to CT.

Prices ranged from $79 to $29.  Venue is a 2,200 seat facility.  Not bad, but not one of my favorites plus it's only 30 minutes away.  Ended up finding a seat in Row E for $49.00.  Venue was maybe 2/3 full.

I have to keep telling myself NOT to sit near the front anymore.  In this case, I was on the right side of the stage.  I was too close to the speakers.  As seems to be typical anymore, the band tends to drown out the vocals.

Having said that, I still enjoyed the show.  I didn't write down the set list, but I think it was pretty close to what CWazyTom posted.  I liked the 2nd half more than the first, probably because the songs were more familiar, and I was having some issues understanding the words.  Yes, some of that my be me.

Did I like the show?  Yes.  Would I travel very far to go see them again?  No.  But then, I'm not sure how far I would travel anymore to see CW.

I got to see them a year or so ago.  I don't remember the specific set list, but I will say Ireland's Call is one of the best closing songs.  They did what some people thought was the end of the show as they introduced the band.  Audience is standing and applauding.  They guys left, but the band kept playing.  Then, they segued into Ireland's Call.  Everyone just stayed on their feet for the whole song.   Really great time!

Celtic Woman / Re: How many shows / meet and greets have you been to?

CWrazy Tom made a comment that got me thinking.  He said he went to a show in Fort Myers, FL.

Back in 2009 my daughter and I went to a show in Fort Myers.  At that time, she was a Junior in High School.  Show was a Thursday night.  My concern was she would miss school on Friday, and that causes lots of grief with the school.  Oh no, she said.  There is a college (Florida Gulf Coast University) in Ft Myers.  As long as we go on a tour as a potential student, then it's an excused absence.  (I knew I was going to be in trouble!)

Anyway, we had front row tickets and a M&G.  The Meet & Greet was with Chloe and Mairead.  My daughter was really shy but Chloe looked up at her and asked what her favorite song was.  My daughter told her.  Chloe said "I saw you singing along".  From that point on, Chloe was her favorite.  We met her a number of times including at Radio City where my daughter and Chloe talked about Broadway shows.

I've never been a fan of on-line shows.  Yes, I understand why they are being done; it's just not the same as a live show.  Having said that, I also acknowledge I'm spoiled.  Per Covid (pre-2020), I've been to 83 CW shows; 8 Lisa Kelly shows, 17 Chloe shows and one Mairead N show.

In 2020, I think CW did 12 shows before shutting down.  I went to 3 of these.

I did one live Chloe show in 2020 (December) and 3 of her shows in 2021.

Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Re: Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour

I decided to go to the Atlanta Christmas show.  I paid $700 for 2 pit seats with a M&G and a pre-show reception.  Then there's a hotel room plus gas to get there so this is probably a $1500 trip.  Since I only went to 3 shows this year, I was kind of under what I had spent in the past for shows.

My PBS station said they were doing a M&G for the local show, but no info until their December pledge drive.  Chances are it will be in the $350 to $400 range for a pair of tickets.  Will I pay it?  Probably.   Will that be the only show I go to next year? Probably unless I'm blown away by the show.

All shows are getting expensive.  Look at what happened with Taylor Swift.  My daughter wanted to go, but figured out that using her whole paycheck wasn't the smartest idea in the world.

I just spent $250 for a pair of tickets to go see Come From Away locally.  I've seen it before.  It's one of the top 2 or 3 Broadway type shows I've seen.

You are correct -- there are usually multiple shows in Florida.  Florida has multiple "major" cities.  Over the years, I've seen shows in Tampa, Clearwater, St Petersburg, Lakeland, Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, Melbourne and Daytona Beach.  Yes, some require an overnight stay, but they are within driving distance (about 4 hours max).

I'll go to the show in St Petersburg this year.  Not sure if I will go to any others.  A number of years ago, I was kinda burned out on CW. This was when they were doing TAR, starting in the audience.  Lisa Lambe ended up sitting next to me.  I went home and bought tickets for another 4 or 5 shows.  Part of that was, of course, I had had the opportunity to meet all the girls multiple times and they recognized me.  Not so much any more.

I sent an email to my PBS station asking about tickets.

A couple years ago, the question was do I want the M&G or "good" seats?  Good seats being defined as 1st or 2nd row.  My local venue only let PBS have seats starting in row 12.

The Postcards is the one that needed "help".  Yes, part of that may be due to how it was recorded, i.e. outside.  That's a challenge itself, then throw the Covid restrictions in and it's more complicated.

I've only been to one CT concert, but I will say this.  Ireland's Call is the best closing number!

You raise an interesting point.  However, would new US fans fork out a lot of money to go see a show with a group they may not be super familiar with.  If I look at my show history, my first show was the only one that year.  Same with the second year.  Then the 3rd year I went to 9 shows.  That year I went to 2 shows in New York and 2 at Red Rocks.  Both of those were not necessarily cheap trips (hotel, flights, car, etc), but by then it was worth it, plus my job allowed me to do those kind of things.

I sent in my name for the Helix show, but didn't get chosen.  For my wife and I it probably would have been a minimum of $5k.  Probably more, since once you pay for the flight, you might as well do some other traveling while you are there.  For example, they were doing tours of Highclere Castle.

I had sent in my request for tickets.  Didn't get them.  OK, such is life.  I'm aware that doing any kind of a live show these days is becoming pricey.  Thanks Ticketmonster!  Did you see the prices for Taylor Swift?  Yes, the Notre Dame game conflict was an issue.  Did CW even pay attention to that?  Yes, maybe that's the only time they could get the Helix.

I would not have done last minute tickets.  Maybe in the US, but not overseas.  The closer you get to an event, the more things cost.  I've said over the years that the ticket cost for CW is the least expensive part of the show.

Didn't I see something that says you can't delete Threads without deleting Facebook?  I mean how many social media platforms does one need?

How long will it be until someone asks What is Twitter?

If I recall, Lisa K had some surgery on her vocal chords a couple years ago.  She appeared with Chloe at one of Chloe's solo shows in Atlanta and did a song.  My guess is she is probably not up to a complete show, but can maybe handle a solo and a group number.

A Christmas Symphony Tour 2023 / Re: Celtic Woman Symphony Tour 2023
« on: August 20, 2023, 03:04:10 PM »
I was listening to CW Christmas music today. Any time is a good time for Christmas music - right?

I am so looking forward to Mairead C singing Auld Lang Syne. She hits the high note in the middle of the song in the Magic of Christmas version (not so much at the end of the song). So good!!!

I was never a big fan of Auld Lang Syne until I heard Eabha do it.  Her version then became one of my favs!  To me, it's not a song for a soprano to sing.
