Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Re: Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour
« on: February 16, 2024, 08:21:19 AM »
Going back to the "old" M&G, the girls would sign things for you.  I have signed tickets, a Mairead Fiddler Crossing sign, and a bunch of photos.  The most interesting is a t-shirt from 2009.  They did 2 shows at RCMC.  I went to both and got 4 signatures.  It was luck that I got another M&G later in the year and got whoever was the missing girl!

Another interesting story was after Chloe was out on her own.  Saw her at an Irish bar in Jacksonville, FL.  (Note -- that's where I discovered I like Irish whisky).  I had gone to a number of CW shows with my daughter and Chloe had met her and asked about her at other shows.  My daughter was graduating from college about a week after Chloe's concert.  I took a card and asked Chloe if she would sign it for my daughter.  Not only did she write a very nice note in it, she gave me a T-shirt and her CD for my daughter!

Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Re: How many on here???

I went to 3 back to back to back shows in 2020; all in Florida.  Had a couple more later in other states.  About a week after the last show was when they canceled everything.  But, they were going to "finish" the tour in 2021, so I kept my tickets.  As we know, that didn't happen either!

So in 2022, I went to 2 "canceled" shows from 2020 (out of State) plus 2 more local shows.  Ended up the year with one Christmas show.

The most shows I ever did in one year was 13.  Interesting that that was the year I was kinda burned out and said I wasn't going to travel very much.  Went to what I think (without looking it up) was the first show of the tour.  This was where the girls came out in the audience for the start of TAR.  I was on the end of the 2nd row.  Lisa L was on my side.  She sat in an empty seat next to me!  That's when I fell in love all over again!

I figured out that I have been to 36 different cities for shows; 84 total.  Then, there's another bunch where I went to see Chloe after she went out on her own, plus a couple shows Lisa Kelly did as well.

Some years ago, David Downes was involved in a Broadway type show called The Bloody Irish.  Lisa was in it.  It was supposed to come to New York City.  I had tickets plus some admission to some opening night festivities.  Unfortunately, the show got canceled and never got to NYC

The best I've ever done is 13 shows in 2010 and 2011.  Another couple I had 7.  I really hate to think about how much I spent going to shows.  Ticket, air fare, hotel, car, food probably gets close to $1,000 per show.

Doing some digging in my old calendars ---

I saw CT on February 25, 2022 in St Petersburg, FL.  If I recall, that was one of their last shows before they shut the tour down.  It was a long time ago, and I'm getting old!

Saw them again on October 29, 2023, again in St Pete.

And, they still have the best closing concert number I've ever seen!

Forum Questions & Comments / Re: Unsafe message -- ADMIN??

My only reason for asking is I never got this message until maybe 2 weeks ago.  I had a computer crash.  Once everything got back up and running, the message showed up.

Forum Questions & Comments / Unsafe message -- ADMIN??

So, I'm recovering from a computer issue.  Ended up having to have a new hard drive installed, which, of course, required updating some software (which I try very hard NOT to do!)

Anyway, using Google Chrome, I'm getting a message that this website is unsafe because it can't prove it is CelticWomanForum.net.  I click on the proceed anyway button, and then confirm again and it let's me in.

Not sure exactly what the issue is.

Lisa Kelly / Re: Masterclass
« on: January 09, 2024, 09:03:29 AM »
Class started at noon.  There were about 30 students.  Started by going around the room introducing yourself.  Most of us also said when/how we discovered CW.  Then, there was a Q&A with Lisa and Chloe.  They had given us lyrics for 5 or 6 songs.  We worked line by line on several, then all the way thru a couple times.  Mid-afternoon break; coffee, cookies, etc.  Then another Q&A.  Finally, we sang all the songs straight thru.  Finished about 5, then took photos.

Great time!  Well worth the 7 hour drive (each way) for me!

Lisa Kelly / Masterclass

So I was finally able to attend one of Lisa Kelly's Masterclasses on Saturday, the 16th.  Of course, it just so happened to be the day after Chloe did a concert just down the road in Fayetteville.  2 things on one trip!

I had not sang since high school (and that was a looonnng time ago).  Having said that, had a great time.  Both Lisa and Chloe were great instructors.  There were about 30 people there.  We learned multiple songs, including one in Gallic.  That was, shall we say, interesting.  We did not do any of what you would consider traditional (US) Christmas songs.  We did do In the Bleak Midwinter, which I had heard, but really didn't pay attention to the words.

Most fun was something called Fairytale of New York.  This is supposedly the most popular Christmas song in Ireland.  Anything that starts out "It was Christmas Eve babe, In the drunk tank .."  ranks right up there.  Lisa said she did not print the 2nd verse for us, since it has some offensive language.

They gave us some tips on how to breathe better when singing, when to breathe, etc.  I'll probably never use these tips, but it was still really fun and interesting.

If you get a chance, GO TO ONE.  I know I'll try to do another one.

As has been mentioned before, the M&G's have changed over the years.  It used to be you got 2 girls.  Random as to who it was.  They sat behind a table and signed just about anything you gave them.  I have a couple of photographs and a T-shirt signed by all 4 girls at that time.  That was hard (and expensive) to do!

Then, the M&G moved to before the show,  It's been this way since, I think the 2013 Believe tour.  That's when they changed to before the show and it became a photo op with all 4.

There's a show in Fort Myers, FL.  The PBS station wants $600 for a pair of "premium" seats w/M&G.  $450 for a "P1" seat (whatever that is).

My gut says that CW has typically hit Red Rocks every  other year.  Same thing with RCMH.  Both of those are fairly big venues from a seating capacity, so maybe they have concerns about how many people would attend.  We all know everything costs more, especially after COVID.  Are people going to shows of any kind less than they were several years ago?

I'd spend the money to go to either one without a second thought, but I also realize a lot of people can't do that.

The Fort Myers PBS station is offering a M&G with premium seating for $600 a pair.

The Tampa, FL PBS station told me via email that they will be offering a ticket package during the pledge drive.  They are supposed to let me know when this is in late November.  Pledge drive is in December, and the local show is in early March.
