Celtic Woman / My idea for the next Celtic Woman show
« on: December 30, 2018, 04:44:47 PM »
Sure, Ancient Land is brand new, but I used to love making these (on the old forum) and haven't done so in a while, and I have never made one for the new line up, so here we go! It doesn't have a name - that's based on the intro song, which has to be written to begin with.

Staging
Ideally open air, but can be in a threatre or hall. A nice, pleasant, and bright stage. Not too small. A fairly Celtic, slightly fairytale-ish style, but not overdoing it - it should be Celtic Woman style, not in the style of other Celtic groups. Not too simple, not to heavy, lots of green, but also other, warm colours. Good, warm lighting, as in Believe.
Arrangements
Not as opulent as Believe, but also not as minimalist as Ancient Land. A thick orchestra and dominant band and choir, but enough room for the protagonists to stand out. There's plenty of traditional songs, and I think of very versatile, colourful arrangements, with different twists to familiar tunes, some songs slower or more upbeat than they are usually done, some mixed or changed up styles, etc. A creative, unusual experience. All girls are allowed to show off in various ways: We will hear Éabha's sean nos technique, but also her more contemporary voice, Megan's full operatic ability, as well as her lower, mellow voice, Mairéad will show her stellar soprano voice, but also her soft and breezy sound. Tara will have one more solo than the others, who all have duets in all possible combinations, and she will get to show more of her skills than usual - I finally want to hear a four voice acapella!
Dresses
For the first act, very light dresses - in both fabric and colour. Various shades of very pale green for the singers, with slightly darker (or more satured) green details the shape of leaves and flowers and the likes. Tara's dress very similar, yet almost white with light green details. All slightly glittery, Tara's a bit more than the others. All first act dresses have a similar shape and cut. The choir has similar dresses, but with less details, in a sort of beige-gold colour. The ceili dresses are longsleeved, have a soft (non-shiny) fabric, and bright, warm colours - pink or Tara, purple for Mairéad, fuchsia for Megan, red for Éabha. The chorus girls have similar dresses, all in dark blue. The second act dresses are all different and very creative in style and shape, but all have the same basic colour - a warm, gold. Fairly glittery, with lovely velvet details in different, rich gemstone colours - emerald for Mairéad, ruby for Megan, sapphire for Éabha, citrine for Tara.

For me, this is particularly difficult, but in the end, I think I'll choose Green Grow The Rushes.

General Discussion / A most Unfortunate way to start a new
« on: December 25, 2018, 10:27:52 AM »
Netflix's absolute depressing and dreadful show A Series of Unfortunate Events will finally come to a most unpleasant end on the first of January. As Mr. Snicket says, you'd better not watch this show - or read the books - as it is dreadful, melancholy, and calamitous, a word which here means dreadful and melancholy. So better Look Away.

*cough* On another note, and volunteers around? Any fellow associates? Hopefully no arsonists or people with much too great interest in fortunes and sugar bowls.

Other Musicians / Elton John
« on: December 23, 2018, 04:09:35 PM »
Any Elton John fans here? I must admit, I am a huge fan of Elton John. Although I'd have never expected such a thing to happen, I saw him live in 2016. It was amazing. A Wonderful Crazy Night for sure, just as it was called. I've been a fan since I was a child, and always wanted to see him life - while being absolutely certain that I wouldn't. His music means very much to me, and I have to say, Elton John is an incredible musician. I can't think of a single bad song - even his music from the 80s is a lot better than most people give credit for. I even dare say, some of his best songs are from that time, although I am usually alone with that opinion.

General Discussion / Any bookworms here?
« on: December 23, 2018, 03:59:04 PM »
I feel that, now that this is the new forum, it ought to have the hustle and bustle the old forum used to have, and sadly, doesn't anymore. I suppose it's appropriate that I start some general discussion threads, rather than just the "necessary" discussion of current Celtic Woman events.

As the thread title asks, is anybody a bookworm here? I certainly am. My favourite genres include fantasy, middle grade and young adult literature, and - to a great degree 19th and early 20th century - classics, and, even more specific. Any combination of these is especially good, and if were to be even more specific, I really like comedies of manners and steampunk and its related genres. I also like plays and poetry, and individual examples of very many genres. And I love Wilde, very, very much. That's not exactly news - I made lots of posts about Oscar Wilde in the old forum. It's actually said how he's reduced to Dorian Gray, which is a good book, but only one book, and to his tragic private life. Wilde is much more than that - his work is hysterically funny at times, awfully sad at others, and incredibly heartwarming. Everyone should read his fairy tale called "The Happy Prince" - a very misleading title, indeed, but what a beautiful story! I just watched a movie adpatation of An Ideal Husband a few days ago. Watched it again, actually. My favourite film adaptation of Wilde's work is, however, The Importance of Being Earnest with Rupert Everett and Colin Firth. It's incredibly funny and definitely recommended.

Right now, I am reading The Mysterious Benedict Society, a middle grade novel by Trenton Lee Stewart. I've heard the title years ago, and been curious about it, but never got around it until now, and what can I say? I love it. I definitely think adults should read children's novels, for a great variety of reason, and I think this one's particularly good. It's an endearing adventure, with many aspects that I really like and that I enjoy dreaming into, which appeals to my inner child, but from a more grown up perspective, I really love the writer's insightful portrayal of children, and of various types of intelligence. It's an annoying trope in adult and children's literature alike - and sadly, very much in real life - that everybody's either smart or stupid in the same way, particularly children, and that intelligence is simply a scale. This book is about four "gifted" children, who are all very gifted in their own way, vastly different from the others, and not without some, let's say balancing, drawbacks. I think this is a very good book for children, but also for adults and teachers, and people in general, because it very much highlights how individual and different people are, and how everyone is smart in their own way, and how every smart person can also be stupid at times, and that's okay. Also, it has an island, and mazes, and riddles, and morse code, and rain, and agents, and mysteries, so there.

Also, recently, I read another good - no, two really good, very new middle grade novels: Nevermoor - The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, and its sequel, Wundersmith - The Calling of Morrigan Crow. It's supposed to be a trilogy, at least originally, the author said she'd planned to write a series of nine books. These first two came out last and then this year. They are advertised as the "next Harry Potter" but I personally don't like comparisons of that sort. They are definitely the next big thing - delightfull, funny, just the right amount of dark for a kid's book, an generally amazing to read.

« on: December 20, 2018, 01:33:48 PM »
...my name is Chiara but I am also known as ShiningBright in the old forum, and this one. I have been CWazy for quite some time, and used to make a whole bunch of graphics in the old forums. I should do that again.

I love all CWuties equally, but I am particularly fond of Méav. My favourite album is A New Journey, my favourite song is The Soft Goodbye.
