Title: Could the coronavirus affect any tour dates?
Post by: kay_girl_97 on March 04, 2020, 11:50:35 AM
This might be odd to ask on here, but the Bay Area and Los Angeles just declared a state of emergency over it and the tour has shows near there. I know that we shouldn't let fear cancel everything (and CW probably won't cancel anything) and that the disease might die down by then, but I just could help but wonder if CW and their crew are worried.

You know I was just wondering the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they shut the M+Gs down to protect the cast and crew a bit. If it gets bad enough, who knows.

All my travel dates for the rest of the tour are up in the air. My work has already put a travel freeze in effect.

:( Sad to be the bearer of possible bad news, but-

4 weeks or so ago, I arranged a trip to Boston & Philadelphia to look at miniature books at a bookstore in Boston and to hear (and tour) the mighty organ in Macy's, Philadelphia. 3 flights - Buffalo-Boston, Boston-Philly and Philly to Buffalo. 2 hotels, 2 car rentals and two CW concerts Worcester & Philly. Virtually all the tour with non-refundable prices, although from what I am hearing even if I had insurance, it wouldn't cover the cancellations!

How things have changed in 4 weeks! Anyway after talking to my Doc and local health department, both advise me not to go! Unfortunately, I am in the 15% bracket (over the 80%) and the odds go up significantly of severe problems or worse. Had I been under 50 say, I would probably have made the trip (taking all precautions). Had there been a test to see if you had already had COVID-19 (and developed antibodies - I had relatively mild symptoms after being in and around Wuhan last October 20th) I might have made the trip, but there isn't one yet. So the trip is cancelled.

I don't know if concerts will be cancelled but I suspect so. If States put limits on the number of people who can be together at one time (as I believe has just happened), that may force cancellations.

Anyway stay safe out there and wash wash wash.

Sorry to hear about you not going to your shows because of the coronavirus You know they have been  vaccinating cows, Horses and pigs for years for the coronavirus so  why can't they make them for humans. My daughter works for a hospital and she says they are not worried about this Virus as it's only another flu like virus thats getting alot of news coverage and alot of hype. but i guess only time will tell. Hope your able to get refunds keep trying

The problem isn't the current level of impact to an individual that gets the virus. Mortality rate is pretty low, relatively speaking. The problem is that it will make people sick and transmit more effectively than the flu (since people can be carriers for up to 14 days without showing symptoms) and have a cascade effect on medical and economic systems.

Some estimates are putting the number of affected people (due to exponential exposure rates) at 150 million Americans and 400+ million people worldwide. Even if the mortality rate is low, that's a LOT of sick and terrified people.

A virus doesn't have to be deadly to be disastrous.

The governor of Maryland issued the order so the venue is postponing this one and one other show for now. The email says they will see if they can reschedule and will let us know in the next 2 weeks if it will be possible.

GlenS- It is the venue. It was because of the order by the governor of New York.

I'm trying to keep the calendar updated with postponed shows I hear about.

I'm putting an X next to the actual event in the calendar and marking the topics in the calendar board as postponed.

Please keep posting them here when you hear about them.

Thanks.

As of right now, the state of Ohio has declared no groups of 100 or more people. With that being said, Dayton Arts Association has basically cancelled their shows and said that they will let us know if/when it will be rescheduled.

I called PPAC in Providence this morning and they said that the Mar. 26th show was still on . I told them that the mayor of Providence has declared a emergency and that no venue is allowed to have more than 100 people. She said we`re aware of that but at this point no decisions have been made and they`ll inform their patrons of any schedule changes.  ???

I just spoke with someone at UPAC in Kingston, NY as they had called me to let me know that March 19th show was postponed and  from what the woman from UPAC had said was that the rest of the tour has been cancelled and they will try to get the same venues next year. I checked the Celtic Woman website and didn't see anything as of yet.
Can anyone confirm the information about the rest of the tour?

GlenS- Thank you for looking into it.

P.S.- Since you have a better connection with CW than I do, could you suggest to them to come back to Scranton, PA or Wilkes-Barre, PA next year. It has been 3 years since they were in this area.

Agreed. In my opinion, this was the second-worst 13th I’ve ever experienced next to the 13th of October 2016.
(Anyone from Thailand knows the reason for that day... 😭)

Some people were complaining that the show tonight in Norfolk was still on and blamed the girls, which they do NOT deserve. I don't know if either of them have a say if anything gets cancelled, maybe it was Celtic Collection's idea, but we shouldn't point fingers.

I think that some of the later shows may still be performed. If the containment plans help to reduce the spread and there is a natural reduction of cases into the warmer months, some of May and June might be OK.

Lets hope this is the case and some of the fans get to see the ladies this year.

Well, I'm lucky. I got to see 3 shows this year. Had a ticket for April 1 in Morgantown WV but, of course that's now canceled. Was doing that show in connection with something else so I'm not going to worry about rescheduling. Website says I can call and get my money back. My biggest disappointment is it was a front row seat

It pains me to say it, but I need to re-think travelling to see shows in the future. I love seeing them live, but it's no longer practical to deal with the cost and anxiety associated with traveling repeatedly during the course of a tour.

The past 3 concert-related trips have been essentially mental trainwrecks for me and I can't deal with that mental or emotional collapse any more. In that regard, it's somehow merciful the rest of the shows have been postponed. Perhaps I can get some of my remaining tickets refunded whenever the rescheduling is complete so at least I get something back from this disaster.

For the rest of this year, everything is off the table.

I might still pick one show to travel to in future tours and clearly there may be a few one-off shows (ie. CaraNua) that I'll probably consider, but I think my extensive travelling days are over.

Tom i feel for you i also suffer from PTSD and panic attacks but i take Prozac which helps me to deal with them and also helps with depression and it does a great job for me. Mine all stem from my heart attack i had 6 years ago. Each year it gets to be less and less of a problem but it's still there. Internal fears can be a really hard thing to deal with. This is one reason i don't travel to see shows i don't feel safe traveling. But for yourself you need to do whats right for you so you take care of yourself and maybe seek some help dealing with the anxiety. But man we are here for ya

I feel sad for everybody who wanted to see Celebration and wasn't able to before the postponement.  Hopefully this all blows over quickly and the rescheduled tour dates come out.

Tom, what about traveling in moderation rather than in extremes?  So instead of having your CWazy trips where you go to multiple shows in multiple cities in a week or less, choose one show in one destination and then spread them out throughout the year.  That would be much less stressful to plan and much less exhausting to endure.  Just a thought.

I'm sorry you feel that way Tom.  Traveling costs a lot of money and is especially dangerous these days, so I definitely agree you shouldn't do it if it doesn't somehow make you feel good.

I agree with Tracie that maybe it would help to simplify your trips.  You have a few months to decide but I hope you consider coming to Killarney with us in August.

My parents and I were considering flying over

Are you currently living in Thailand?  That would be quite the journey!

Like Tom said, we can't predict what is going to happen, but I have my tickets for all three nights and also a meet and greet ticket.  I will be there if I can.

We're starting to see some of the canceled Celebration tour shows get rescheduled for May and June, at least according to Ticketmaster.  If those shows actually happen, then Killarney ought to happen.  But it's hard to believe there will be a safe and tested vaccine by that time, so concerts would probably be off the table.

Yes, it is quite a trip from Thailand to Ireland. But my parents and I are willing to go since this summer will most likely be the last time I’ll be able to travel abroad for a while. I’ve got my GCSEs coming up in June next year so from August onwards I’ll be spending most of my time revising for exams and doing coursework for school.

Coronavirus and the mandatory non-essential business lockdowns in some areas are forcing box offices to close temporarily. As a result, some of the ticket releases for re-scheduled shows may be delayed.

If you're planning to get tickets to a re-scheduled show, please keep an eye on the venue / ticketmaster sites for updates.
