The Gothard Sisters are some sisters in the northwestern U.S. who have been making Celtic music together since they were little girls.  They have made several albums, and regularly tour around the U.S. performing their music in concert halls and festivals.

This week, the Gothard Sisters have a Stay-At-Home St. Pat's Show you can watch from home!  It went live at the stroke of midnight in Pacific Time on St. Patrick's Day and it sounds like they will take it down after a week.  You can watch it for free on YouTube and then decide how much you want to pay them, or pay nothing at all.

They mostly played songs from their albums, but they also did some other songs and had some fun live shenanigans.  The audio quality could use some work, but I really appreciated the fact that they had multiple cameras and they edited the video from them together.

Other Musicians / Re: The Fitzgeralds: Report from Laughlin, NV
« on: March 16, 2020, 02:12:32 AM »
I saw The Fitzgeralds again at the same venue on 2020-03-15.  This was a Sunday night show and it was the final show out of 5 that they did in Laughlin this year.  It was so much fun and I'm glad I went again, for the second year in a row!

The concert this year had a different set list, but many of the songs were the same as last year.  I didn't keep careful notes.  I liked a song they played called "Jutland" and the two songs that came after it.  During the show, they said Julie has turned 30 and she is the oldest sibling, and so they are worried about how long her knees can do step-dancing, but I'm not sure how serious that all was.  They did a swing song (It's All Your Fault) and Tom pointed out there there was a little bit of room in the aisles for swing dancing, so that might be fun for me to do next time if I bring a follow.

After the show, I bought Julie Fitzgerald's instructional DVD on step-dancing, and I had a great time talking to the family.   I asked most of them how they were doing.  Pamela asked me how my year was and said I might like "Cherish the Ladies", another band.  Tom remembered me from last year and wanted to shake my hand.  Julie remembered seeing me in the front row and said "eh" at the end of a question to me in that very stereotypical Canadian way.

Kerry was very friendly, perhaps because I had just recently purchased her single Beauty and the Beatz for about $10 CAD.  She asked if I was a musician, and then later as I was leaving she encouraged me to bring my fiddle next year, saying that I'm a fiddler deep down (even though I've never even tried to play one).  I'd like to think she likes my spirit and wants to collaborate with me on some level... maybe if I learn to play fiddle a little bit by next year, we could have a jam or she could give me a lesson or something.

Don Celebrity Theatre has been remodeled nicely; the seats and tables are arranged better now so that all the seats are actually facing the stage.

I'm sorry you feel that way Tom.  Traveling costs a lot of money and is especially dangerous these days, so I definitely agree you shouldn't do it if it doesn't somehow make you feel good.

I agree with Tracie that maybe it would help to simplify your trips.  You have a few months to decide but I hope you consider coming to Killarney with us in August.

Celebration's on Tour / Re: Tour Promo Pics
« on: March 14, 2020, 01:09:18 AM »
Here are the versions I've collected if anyone wants them.  I've been careful to neither scale the image up nor down from what I found originally on the web.  I forget where I got these, probably from various venue websites though.

Celebration's on Tour / Re: Celebration Tour Setlist?
« on: February 28, 2020, 04:34:01 PM »
Tracie went to opening night and posted the set list here:

http://www.celticwomanforum.net/index.php?topic=1279.0

Maybe you did not see it because it is in a weird subforum of this one named "Celebration's on tour".

I don't see the point of having that subforum.  There are potentially two different Celebration things to talk about: the album and the tour.  But the album in this case is just a compilation album, so there isn't much to talk about.  We might as well just keep all the discussions about Celebration on one page.  If there get to be more than about 50 threads here then maybe it would make sense to categorize them more finely, but we would need names that clearly communicate what each category is for.

Links / Performance and interview with new lineup on Tampa morning TV show
« on: February 24, 2020, 11:47:49 AM »
This morning, the new lineup (Chloë Agnew, Mairéad Carlin, Megan Walsh, Tara McNeill) gave an interview and also performed "Danny Boy" on a morning TV show called "Great Day Live" by WTSP-TV in the Tampa, Florida area.  This is the first recording that I've seen with the new lineup!

This page has both videos and a little text:

The interview was mainly about each girl's experience auditioning for the show.

This page just has the interview:

Celebration: The 15th Anniversary Tour / Re: Solo Speculation
« on: February 18, 2020, 01:30:44 PM »
This is fun!  Here is what I predict, off the top of my head, without consulting previous albums or the picks that mattycakes and Tracie made.  These are mainly predictions, but they are biased towards what I would want to see.

Chloë: Walking on the Air, When You Believe
Susan: The Whole of the Moon, She Moved Through the Fair
Mairéad: Newgrange, Caledonia
Megan: Send Me a Song, Scarborough Fair
Tara: Tara's Tunes, Granuaile's Dance

I might post some updates if my mind changes.  This is tricky, because if any of the singers are accompanied by Tara, then I wouldn't really count it as a solo to me.  I think it would be amusing if a few of us committed to a prediction of two solos per lady before opening night and we could see how many songs we got right.

I think they have to do O' America.  That song is iconic.

Jack1949:  They've mentioned the names of at least 6 songs in a press release.  Check out my first post in this thread entitled "Spoilers about the Celebration Tour":

Yes!  I think Rebecca Winckworth is next to Tommy.  I saw an Instragram story, probably from Eabha, where Rebecca was tagged.

I think the concert was called the "St. Gerard's School Centenary Concert".  If you search Google for that, you get the broken link below, and a tiny amount of information about the concert.  Apparently it was at 7:30pm on 2020-01-27 and tickets cost €25.

Celebration's on Tour / Re: Spoilers about the Celebration Tour
« on: January 23, 2020, 01:10:13 PM »
Yeah, maybe Éabha leaving was a surprise to the Celtic Woman team.  I made my first post in this thread on October 11th, and it linked to a page on kingcenter.com with text and a picture that both indicated that Éabha would be part of the Celebration tour.  Those things probably came directly from Celtic Woman, and you'd think they would have done things differently if they knew Éabha was leaving.  I don't think they want to purposely give inaccurate information to the venues and fans.

I love hearing gossip so I wish I knew exactly who knew what and when, and whether any contracts were broken, but we'll probably never really know.
