Title: Ella Roberts
Post by: CWazyTom on June 12, 2020, 11:05:30 PM
Ella Roberts is a singer from Australia, but with Celtic roots.

She was the lead choir member in the Celtic Heart DVD (which featured Lynn and Mairead Nesbitt).

She has quite a voice and her videos are great. Some of the arrangements are phenomenal!

Here's a sample of her stuff:

The Skye Boat Song

The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond

The White Forest (from Tim Janis' Celtic Heart)

(Ella's the lead singer in this song. Her voice is so good, I thought it was Lynn until I saw the DVD)

If you like her music and want to buy to support her, some of her tracks are available from digial music platforms like iTunes, but her website is probably the best place to get the full set:

'Ella' (Digital EP) has 6 lovely tracks:
1. Errigal
2. Siúil a Rúin
3. Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond
4. North Wind
5. Elluria's Lament
6. The Skye Boat Song

Skye Boat Song (Highland Saga Show version)

Another Ella Roberts take on Skye Boat Song. It's a very different arrangement than the last one I shared and she went a different direction with the video. The video editing feels hit and miss in this one, but I think it turned out fairly well and you can't really go wrong listening to this woman sing.

This next video was designed to promote a tour but also prepare the audience to sing along during the tour. Not a bad idea! The tour, like pretty much everything else this year, was of course postponed.

Pachabel probably never thought he'd have such a pretty voice singing his melody. The lyrics in this version aren't anything special, but Ella Roberts sounds quite angelic singing them. There are times when they needed her vocal level a little higher (she got a little drowned out by the pipes at times), but overall, quite enjoyable to listen to.
As a bonus, her look almost channels Lisa Lambe at certain points in the song.

You can get both songs on the album "Highland Saga, Vol. 2" by Pipers of the World (2020).

Another stunning cover by Ella!

This one is "Into the West," a tribute to the late Ian Holm, who played Bilbo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Ella released a music video of Danny Boy.

I was a little worried because I've heard this song covered so many times, I'm getting a bit tired of it.

This video renewed my love for this song.

Sorry to bump up old posts. I was going to start a post on Ella Roberts. She is fantastic. I've been listening to more of her songs lately. I did notice her in "Celtic Heart", but I guess I didn't appreciate her @ the time. Was she not "famous" back then?

The links above are great. I love her profile picture she uses for FB, YT, and Spotify!

On her FB page, she says she moved to Canada (if I read that correctly). Maybe she'll do some concerts in North America soon.

PS. If you have PBS Passport, "Celtic Heart" is still available to watch on demand.
