Since Postcards from Ireland is currently in the making, and our girls are very busy, here's the place to list all that we do know for sure about it yet.
- Tara, Megan, Muirgen and Chloe are the definite album line up, but Susan is also at least partly involved
- The dvd/special will consist of various films shot all over Ireland, which presumeably make up the postcards
- There will be songs or scenes filmed at sunrise
- One of the songs will probably be Wild Mountain Thyme
Update from 4. September:
We will get to hear new music on Friday, 10. September. Whether this means the entire album, an individual single, or a preview, is not yet known.
The album tracklist, at least for the "basic" version, is likely as follows:
- The Dawning of the Day
- Bonny Portmore
- Mise Éire
- Wild Mountain Thyme
- Beeswing
- Down By The Salley Gardens
- Where Sheep May Safely Graze
- Angel
- The Lakes of Pontchartrain
- May it Be
- The Clam of the Day / The Banshee
- The Galway Shawl
- Black is the Colour
That means it consists mostly of traditional Irish music, but also a few contemporary and classical songs. It has also two re-recordings. There does not seem to be an original song on the album, unless some of the songs are not the expected versions, and instead share the same title.
It is, as of yet, not known who performs which songs. However, it is likely that May it Be will be similar to the version from the Celebration tour. Track 11 might be a violin solo, as this is often the case with Celtic Woman songs that consists of two songs. It is also likely that Down By The Salley Gardens will be the Britten's setting, as it is very popular with many CW fans, and the traditional Irish air of the same name has already been used for Moorlough Shore. All of this is, of course, merely speculation of my part and might be wildly incorrect.
-
I'm also sure some of the band members will be getting involved in the DVD/PBS special. John Hunt and Darragh Murphy have put up Instagram stories of them at different places across the country, so it'll be interesting to see what we'll get from the girls!
-
Hi guys, I was going through Chloe’s Instagram stories and I clicked on one of the account tagged by Chloe - it belonged to a member of the filming crew and this man posted a picture of his clapperboard with “Wild Mountain Thyme - Take 1” written on it.
So we can assume that the girls are going to cover this gorgeous song!!!!
-
Meav has them down!! I so loved the Divinas version!"

Nice find! That's a beautiful song!

They've been doing sunrise filming in various locations around Ireland. This'll be a gorgeous dvd!
-
Updated the list. This going to be really exciting!

I just looked on Chloë's Instagram but it wasn't there. What's the guy's name and what's his account called?
-
According to Wikipedia, the new album is supposed to come out late September, but I cannot find any source. Does anyone know where they got this (supposed) information? Or is this just unfounded speculation?

This special isn't the first time Celtic Woman have done something of the magnitude of filming on location, though; as Mairéad C., Susan, Éabha, Tara and Anthony Byrne made a stunner of Amazing Grace for the British TV show Songs of Praise back in 2017: https://youtu.be/8Fh4ybwRP2I

Just went on the Instagram account of one of the member of the crew (his Instagram name is “Donalfoto”) and he posted two stories today, I’m gonna retyped what was written but I’m gonna try to insert the screenshot I captured.
“And that’s a wrap! Two weeks of non-stop shooting a very special set of music videos. 3000k of travelling in the car. Up at silly o’clock each day. Pooped! What day is it?”
The second one might give out the amount of songs we can expect for the new album:
“16 videos in 13 days. They said it “it couldn’t be done”. They were wrong”

Great info!

Since the special will consist of films shot across Ireland, do you think that during the start of each song (if they're all filmed in different places), something might appear on-screen saying the name of the location and the county it's located in before the actual song title shows up?
I feel as if something like that could be extremely useful since the word "postcards" is in the title...
-
I think that's likely. Maybe even a starting shot with a sort of postcard design, or something of that sort.
-
I'd also like to see the names of the performers with some slow-mo footage of them in action at the start of the special too. The last time we got that was with Destiny and since then it's probably become quite difficult for some viewers to know who is who since their names and faces don't show up at the start :(
-
OMG this is SO exciting! I can't wait for the CD and DVD!
-
Any new news?
-
Any new news?
This may be new news!!
-
Not sure if I can say that that's new news since we already know the dates, but still, very exciting. Also, Muirgen seems to be a little nervous, but rather excited at the same time :)
-
It's official! Next week!
-
OMG YES!!!!! First ABBA, now Celtic Woman! I'm SO happy!
-
Not confirmed but this might be the track listing for postcards from Ireland????
-

Yeah!!!!! What a duo announcement together!!!
-

Nice find! Can't wait to hear new music next week!
-
OMG that list looks AMAZING! I can't WAIT to hear these songs! I hope these songs are confirmed! OMG this album is gonna be incredible!
-
This is brilliant! I wanted them to do Down By The Salley Gardens and Wild Mountain Thyme, and also hoped for a recording of the new version of May it Be. And I am so glad they'll do Where Sheep May Safely Graze.
-
I'm also really excited that they're doing ANGEL! If it's the one I'm thinking of, Sarah McLachlan, I can totally picture that being a Megan solo, because she sounds like Sarah! She has the voice for that song!
-
Not confirmed but this might be the track listing for postcards from Ireland????

Next week? 🙊
-
Dawning of the Day sounds like New Day Dawning by CT.
Look's like From a Distance will not happen 😀
All I'm left to curious about is how much Susan is featured with them.
I love Susan 😢💙 this is like an Ancient Land comeback for her.

Celtic Woman posted on all social media yesterday that new music is coming next week on September 10th. Not sure if that's the full album release or just one song or what it is, but we'll hear something next week!
-
I have updated the original post.
-
ALERT ALERT
-
Chloë just announced on her Instagram story today that "Postcards from Ireland is available to pre-order from tomorrow AND as an early treat we're giving you the first track off the album!"

It will be available for pre-order tomorrow :)
-
Hypeeeee
-
According to Celtic Woman’s page on Apple Music, “Postcards from Ireland” will be released on October 29th.
Update: I also managed to find what I think is the official tracklist.
-
Yes, that's the same track list. But wasn't the digital album supposed to come out earlier? Late September, and the cd in October.
-
Looks like we are getting a featured music on this album...
-
Looks like it's gonna be a longer wait for the album than we hoped. October 29 according to iTunes.
-
I wish there were some samples.
-
I wish there were some samples.
4real... The wait is the only thing that sucks
-
Chloe and Muirgen seem to currently filming some sort of interview or something similar.
-
Found this from Celtic Collections page:
We welcome back Chloë for a stunning version of Angel, Megan Walsh & Tara McNeill duet on The Lakes of Pontchartrain, and Susan McFadden performs the haunting May It Be. The album also introduces newest member Muirgen O’Mahony, and includes a performance by British folk group The Longest Johns who join Celtic Woman on a version of Richard Thompson’s Beeswing.

Now this is interesting. I wouldn't have expected May it Be to be a solo once again, though I am sure it will be lovely!
-
WOW!!!!! This is awesome!!!
-
Okay Susan not Angel
But Susan on doing May it Be. That's Huge!
-
I really enjoyed the May It Be Celebration version as a trio.
-
I really enjoyed the May It Be Celebration version as a trio.
I did too. But I'm also excited to hear Susan's version. :)
-
I really enjoyed the May It Be Celebration version as a trio.
I absolutely loved such an iconic version in trio that was. The Mairead portion and Megan and Chloe/Susan in three gave me chills.! Now I'm so mesmerized thst Susan is claiming this. Will the other girl's harmonize and all the solo areas be Susan? I thought Chloe, Mairead on another Celtic Woman classic was unique refreshing.
-
Muirgen said there'll be some new music next week! I wonder if it's another single or some sort of sneak peak!
-
During her first live Q+A with Celtic Woman, Muirgen mentioned she was looking forward to performing classics such as The Parting Glass and Danny Boy. It's possible those will be on the DVD, although she may have just mentioned them because as a long-time CW fan before she became a member, she'd be well aware those songs are often performed on tour.
Now that Gavin Murphy has moved on from Celtic Woman (presumably on better terms than David Downes), I wonder if they'll continue to use some of the existing arrangements or if they'll roll out new versions of the Parting Glass and Danny Boy for Postcards from Ireland.

New versions yet again, I wonder if that's the case then it will be on other well known classics like May it Be. The fan favorites will always stay and so forth need yet another new version for Danny Boy, maybe Amazing Grace, The Parting Glass, You Raise Me Up and Orinoco Flow. However can they make another version some of these had it's 4th or 5th version!
I'm also more interested in this:
who will sing Dulaman now?
will they drop Dulaman
Can they turn it into a group form like Danny Boy and Caranua did.
Chloe should have a turn finally to this.
Overall I would love seeing someone else like Susan take the current Dulaman to see how it differs.
-
I don't think they will have to redo the classic songs again, the only reason they did it in 2016 was because David D sued CW Ltd for not paying the license to use their songs on tours, probably in his contract warns this right to a share of the profits. Mistakes we've only made once in a lifetime and I doubt CW Ltd put that same "right" into Gavin's contract. So I think it's unlikely, a new VoA 2.0, the only reason to re-arrange the old songs is just one: If the new producer wants it, if he thinks his version will be better...
-
Tara just announced on CW's social media today that NEW music from the Postcards from Ireland is coming this Friday (October 8th). She didn't say what the track is but I can assume it's probably going to be something like Wild Mountain Thyme ;D
-
OMG this is getting so exciting!!!
-
So excited to hear another song!
-
I have a really stupid question. :-[ But will the DVD be released the same day the album comes out?
-
I have a really stupid question. :-[ But will the DVD be released the same day the album comes out?
No it has to wait till PBS airs it so I am thinking the dvd will be sometime just before Christmas
-
The one thing I don't like about Celtic Woman is the wait! ;D but it's worth it!
-
@GlenS Thanks!
@rfcw OMG I KNOW!!!!! The waiting drives me even more nuts than I already am (if that's even possible lol). But I agree. It's so worth it!
-
Do we know if there's any different editions of the cd that has any bonus tracks yet? I know they've done that in the past.
-
According to the same website which leaked the new album setlist, our old pals - The Parting Glass, Amazing Grace and Danny Boy - are back for the PBS Special/DVD of PFI...
Source: https://www.sounds-venlo.nl/celtic-woman/postcards-from-ireland_13013517.html
-
WOOHOOOOO!!!!! This is awesome!
I'm honestly glad there seems to be no deluxe version of the album that you can only get physical copies of. If they do decide to record and release bonus tracks in the future, hopefully they'll do what they did with Ancient Land and release them digitally.

And yet another version of Amazing Grace and Danny Boy. Since this is a new director will it be new once again. I don't think they'd repeat Gavin's version apart from there are new mix of voices.
Funny, when You Raise Me Up was one of the always been songs I think it's tiresome and we won't possibly see it again until all members are new.
I can't get enough of Amazing Grace!! As for Danny Boy I might be kinda bored but a new version may change that based on how we're hearing with the two songs!
-
I suppose they don't have to be new—rights-wise—but I hope they will, simply so that the arrangements will fit in with the rest.
-
Well for me personally, I'm looking forward to hearing how they'll sound, whether it's Gavin's versions with just a new mix of voices, or brand new versions altogether. I'm just sooo excited about PFI!
-
Personally, I still think it's Gavin's versions, but in the voices of the current lineup, maybe with some instrument change, as this album is more orchestrated than Ancient Land.
But there is still the possibility of it being completely new arrangements, and if so I'm really curious to see it. Both versions of Parting Glass are amazing, Gavin's version of Danny Boy is stunning, and David's version of Amazing Grace is super touching. If Daragh is really going to rearrange these songs, he will have to overcome himself.
-
First photo of Postcards from Ireland dresses. Just gorgeous.
-
OMG!! I love it. It is what i was expecting
-
Look's Christmas Holiday but I mean those colors don't have to be.
At first glance so quick I thought Eabha was on😂 but she does looking a lot like Lisa Kelly ON THAT PIC BANNER and being next to Chloe.

I wonder if some people will call her "Lisa" at a M+G or stage door. Lol.
-
Gosh, they are BEAUTIFUL! Although I do agree with rfcw that they look a bit Christmassy for the occasion :P
On a side note, where did you find that photo?
-
Beautiful! Chloe's and Muirgen's dresses look a bit... evening gown, rather than CW-style to me, but lovely nonetheless

I found it on Spotify images repo. CW is using it as a profile picture there, though this new picture only appear in certain occasions yet.

They look sooo gorgeous! They honestly look like Disney Princesses!
-
You can pre-order the CD from Amazon in the UK or Ireland now: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09FC5VNTB/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpt_1
If you hate having postage fees then I'd recommend you go for this ;)

I can't remember if we already knew this, but in Megan's Facebook live she said that her solo is Bonny Portmore. She also said Lakes of Pontchartrain is her and Tara as a duet, which I do remember hearing previously.
-
Anyone know where we can watch the Q&A? Wasn't able to watch when it first was on
-
I'm toooo optimistic about Susan's May It Be and her roles in other song(s) :P
Anyone know where we can watch the Q&A? Wasn't able to watch when it first was on
Isn't the recap video on The Celtic Woman Facebook page.

I checked and yes, she is singing Bonny Portmore :)
-
Megan said a new music video is coming out on Friday on the CW YouTube channel :)
If I had to have a good guess, then it's probably something like Wild Mountain Thyme, as that's the only remaining song from Postcards I'm picturing as a group number :P
-
Wild Mountain Thyme Pleasseeeeee!
My expectations is that this is no longer a lyrics video but an "Official Music Video" with Vevo certificate and about the song itself, I think it's something like the Sarah Calderwood Version.

Not that i could hear...
-
I am disappointed to know that Susan is not a part of any group number, but I'm still excited for the album. I know it's still gonna be awesome, and I'm actually really happy to know that there are a lot more group numbers than we thought. But Susan deserved to be a part of at least one group number. Plus I miss the 4-part harmonies.
-
Oh I knew this would be but had hopes of one song as well. It's so interesting seeing this album have one track by Susan. Better than nothing and suppose May it Be represents her contribution to the Celebration Tour. I wonder if this Director has been very sweet to Susan and I think his arrangement of May it Be is the only not new song to this album.
-
First promotional video on Facebook!!
https://www.facebook.com/universalmusicdeutschland/videos/307855091170454
I think it's so unprofessional, looks like someone's nephew did It...
-
Argh... I'm going to need therapy at this rate. I'm not sure it's even mentally safe for me to watch the PBS special at this point.
I might be better off skipping this one and hoping there's another one later.
-
Terrible video, but that's because it's from the German Universal site. I assume a PBS trailer will look different. That aside, the shots do look lovely. (And, as I said, the graphic design quality of CW has been terrible for years, especially their usual publicity photos look terrible with the smudgy "almost black" backgrounds. But the editing on the sound and video for this album is particularly bad.)
-
I disagree. I love the concert specials with all the lights and the glitz and glam, but this was very simple and laidback. I really like it too. The girls look beautiful. The scenery is lovely. I love the big shows but I love and embrace simplicity too.
-
I also find the scenery and actual shots very beautiful! The promo video itself is bad, but that doesn't mean anything about the show's quality.
Also I LOVE the Aran jumper + dress combo!
-
Tee hee hee the fact they're wearing sweaters really makes me happy!
-
I disagree with your complaints, I think it looks beautiful! Yes, the quality is terrible, but remember, this is Facebook's nonsense we're looking at and not PBS' ;D
-
Tee hee hee the fact they're wearing sweaters really makes me happy!
GRANTED FOR YOU ;D however I don't know how I feel about them.
Dawning of the Day in red ...mmm ok
-
Those shots looks beautiful, but as Shinning said, graphics design is not Celtic Woman's marketing dept strength. PBS usually do a much better job on this.
-
Sorry to spill the beans but
been confirmed by my Edna source(s) that Amazing Grace, Danny Boy and The Parting Glass will feature no harmonies.
The women will stand still and take turns. :P
Apparently explains for Meav packed her bags. 😮
Jajajajajajajajajajajajaja
-
Nooooo!!! Who’s Edna and how does she know?
-
So they have new arrangements? Anyway, the original concert had very few harmonies, and the same goes to some of their more popular songs. Yes, I love the harmonies, too, but we can't know whether the songs will be good or not before we hear them.
-

My hopes are up for these. Any new version of fan favorites is truly special.

You've got to be kidding me. Are the new musical director and mixer trying to sabotage the group? How buzzed am I going to have to be to watch the PBS special? I'm half expecting Danny Boy to be a rap solo at this point. What is going on?

You do know I was just being hysterical ;D
Harmonies mean everything to me with CW!
-
I am so happy with the inclusion of photographing Susan. I kind of at first wasn't surprised if there be just one for the tour lineup poster. I am overly surprised that the back of the album has her not once but twice aside from her in red but in the other's other outifts whether it's just a casual pose or will those be an act 2 or 3 dress change. From the clip and also an instagram story pic it looks like there's four different outfit changes unless there's more??
I think this director if he's able to direct how the album appears seems to want to respect Susan as a member of CW even if the album has her only for one solo. Yes Meav was on the DVD cover of Destiny and she was guest but she didn't have but one appearence which could been her option not wanting to and also over promote like she is back and the lineup on tour. The thing is it's fantastic to me with much love but a lot of other's whether they know Susan or not, might think she's in the group songs by listening but sure most question on the music videos already seen a comment saying why Susan is not there. I think it's really great and maybe the 1st time an official CW as Guest position (while) a new album so which explains.~*
-
You will have got this on the back of the booklets for the album but I found a clearer image without any credits to share with you all :)
I know they look quite casual, but I'd assume those outfits would be their céilí outfits when they go on tour :P

If May it Be is on the DVD setlist will it mean we just see scenery with Susan's voice?(?)

https://www.sundayworld.com/showbiz/irish-showbiz/celtic-womans-chloe-agnew-reveals-what-it-was-like-to-hit-the-big-time-with-the-group-at-15-41025799.html?fbclid=IwAR2M_rRsaKKvIO5xd7OQOhBhxqkwgFZm5XQmYLEyNfHorIBvlB2fWfoTxds
It sounds like Chloe may be back just a little longer than we thought. Just the way she describes that coming back was the best thing with her being different from the solo work and stepping in as more mature artist.

Maybe Susan actually did record May it Be on location. Or they use the group version on the DVD – it wouldn't be the first time for a CW DVD to feature a different version of a song than the album.
-
If Susan doesn't feature on the PBS special, perhaps May it Be could be sung by the three vocalists, or Chloë and Muirgen to tie in with Megan and Tara's duet? I doubt that will happen, but it'd be nice to see a little make-up for Susan not being there.
-
Wasn't the filming of The DVD before the CD. Usually the CD is first which is funny because would that explain Susan only being on the CD. If the filming was after the CD it be sure of a matter Susan could film for that.

The tour is going to be "interesting" on a number of levels. Tours are brutal. Every night in a different hotel. Minimal time off. For this year especially, what is the COVID impact going to be? And lets not even get into the mask/vaccine differences. Then you have a new person in the group. Yes, that's happened before, but not with all the other things going on. New musical director.
Depending on the specific girl, some really seemed to like the interaction with fans. Other, not so much. I don't expect to see M&Gs this year, and maybe never again. One of the reasons I have been to a lot of shows was I was willing (and able) to pay for a M&G ticket. This year, I'm going to two "local" shows and two out of town shows. The out of town shows I bought tickets for back in 2019. I just let them roll over. I have mixed feelings about the out of town shows after listening to the CD. Do I spend the money on airfare, hotels, car rental, etc? Granted I said this same thing a couple tours ago. Since I live in Florida, I usually have the opportunity to see a couple shows very early in the tour. If I want to go to more, I have time to plan. Granted, M&Gs were becoming hard to get.
I went to my first show in 2007 so I've seen a lot of the changes. Some I liked, some I didn't like as much.

Lovely, and much better than the one put up on Facebook. I especially like the parts filmed in the sunrise and on the beach :)

So according to Susan, she'll be featured in two songs on PBS special: May it be (of course) and one of the three they usually do (parting glass, danny boy or amazing grace). She mentioned Wexford as the recording location. Any guesses?

Johnstown Castle is near Wexford City; County Wexford, Ireland so...
-
Here's some more (detailed) information about the PBS special:
"The journey begins in Ireland's Ancient East with a return visit to Johnstown Castle in County Wexford, where the group delivers a spine-tingling rendition of the ever-popular "Amazing Grace". Then on to the monastic site at Glendalough in County Wicklow for Megan's performance of "Bonny Portmore". Next up are the spectacular seascapes and cliffs in County Antrim where the group performs a brand new rendition of "The Dawning of the Day". They then move on to a reconstructed early 20th-century Irish village in County Tyrone to perform "Beeswing", a beautiful folk song. Then on to the "Wild Atlantic Way", stopping off at Lissadell House in County Sligo, the holiday home of renowned Irish poet W.B. Yeats to hear Muirgen singing "Down by the Salley Gardens". At Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, County Galway, Chloë delivers a stunning rendition of "Angel". In County Kerry, Tara performs the magnificent Bach violin solo "Where Sheep May Safely Graze" in the medieval monastic ruins of Muckross Abbey. In the Chapel at Trinity College in Dublin, Susan offers a powerful rendition of "May it Be"."

I'm a bit disappointed they didn't choose some farming fields for Tara to do "Where Sheep May Safely Graze" because well, look at the song title, but I'm especially looking forward to seeing what setting the Chapel at Trinity College will provide for "May it Be". On a side note, "Down by the Salley Gardens" was written by W.B. Yeats, so I find it a weird, but good coincidence to film the song somewhere that's related to him!

So interesting they begin with Amazing Grace near Johnstown Castle ? It notes "the group". Now I took a screenshot of the postcards pic from the shop and zoomed it and saw Susan with Megan and Chloe. I don't know if Muirgen is also there but why would she be not on. If the direction of the director and songs still have to remain three girls I would guessed it be Danny Boy. There's no proof it could be The Parting Glass as the last number or it could even be Amazing Grace. We won't know until we see it. I would guessed Parting Glass in four girls which for that song was never done before with four singers. If the postcard is any indication it's only three did they choose Susan which she wanted to do? This is an interesting game of I wonder what will it be!
-
The order of songs named doesn't seem right. That aside, Where Sheep May Safely Graze might be beautiful in monastic ruins, and they are always in the green. There might even be sheep. I still don't understand why it's a violin solo, when this title in particular refers to a sung aria, and the instrumental has a different title, but Tara's version is so lovely, that it makes up for that.

Found this decription on my PBS Station mentioning a song called The Wild Atlantic Way. Does anyone here know this song?
Celtic Woman performs a variety of tunes from 14 different locations throughout Ireland; songs include "Amazing Grace," "Bonny Portmore," "The Dawning of the Day," "The Wild Atlantic Way" and more.
-
That might be a typo. They'll be in "The Wild Atlantic Way" but I don't think they're singing a song that has that title. If so, though, I hope this helps: https://youtu.be/iuBwEeQ2FI4
