« on: January 13, 2020, 11:28:12 PM »
David Downes (born 9 June 1975) is a composer, pianist, producer, and musical director who is best known for being the co-founder and musical director of the all-female Irish ensemble Celtic Woman

Career

David Downes was born in Dublin, Ireland. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin where he studied Music and Composition. He has performed at venues around the world, including Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall and Wembley Arena, appearing with soloists James Galway and Alan Stivell, the group Boyzone, and the Washington Symphony, Moravian Philharmonic, Hollywood Studio Symphony and National Symphony orchestras. He has made recordings with Moya Brennan, Clannad, Michael Crawford, Michael W. Smith and Bill Whelan. He has acted as orchestrator for Riverdance on Broadway and Secret Garden most notably.

He joined Riverdance where he was Music Director on Broadway, as well as for the American and European touring companies. Later he and Sharon Browne formed 'Celtic Woman', which has toured across the world with platinum recordings in the USA, Australia, Japan, South Africa, and major following in Asia, Europe and South America.

He acted as musical director for Irish President Mary McAleese's Inauguration in 2004. He has performed for U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama

Musicography

Original songs

Downes has written many original songs for Celtic Woman, including: The Soft Goodbye, Send Me a Song, One World, The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun, At the Céili, Sing Out!, Granuaile's Dance, The Lost Rose Fantasia, The Blessing, The Call, Green the Whole Year Round, Walking The Night and Tabhair Dom Do Lamh. The lyricists with whom he has collaborated most are Caitríona Ní Dhúill, Barry McCrea, Shay Healy and Brendan Graham.

Television, film and theatre

His credits include Thou Shalt Not Kill, The Enemy Within, The Hunt For Red Willie at the Peacock Theatre, Jeff Daniels's Escanaba in da Moonlight and The Shaughraun at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. He produced opening and closing songs, as well as acting as choral arranger for the Disney movie Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure. Also, he has been working on a drama, which is based on the Easter Rising of 1916, featuring Lisa Lambe and Malcolm Sinclair, known as The Bloody Irish!

Work with other artists

In 2007, Downes helped former Celtic Woman member Hayley Westenra to record The Last Rose of Summer for her album Treasure. The song was sung as a duet by Westenra and another member of Celtic Woman, Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, while Downes led the orchestra.

Awards

Celtic Woman albums have been credited platinum in many countries, and the DVDs of their TV concerts multi-platinum, in some cases, with notable popularity in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Germany, France, Austria and South Africa.

In 2010 Downes was nominated for an EMMY award for Outstanding Musical Direction for a televised musical event. Other nominees included The Olympic Games-Opening Ceremonies (which won the EMMY), In Concert at the White House, The Kennedy Center Honours, and Andrea Bocelli and David Foster in concert.

General Discussion / This is the only forum left
« on: December 28, 2019, 06:07:18 PM »
Hey in looking into SSL for the forum i looked up as many of the CW girls forums that i could find and all of them are either gone or unattended like the old CWF is the only forum i found that has new posts was Lisa Kellys and the posts were all by 1 person and not the admin out of 4 admins there is 1 that still logs in the others have been gone for years even the builder of the forum has not been loged in in years same thing with the Lisa Lambe Navy forum the last post was by Tom back in 2017 and the make of that forum hasn't been there in like 4 years. So as far as i can see this is the last CW forum thats still has admins and people posting on is this something we can use to promote this forum with.

I have put in a offer on the old CWF domain name with the hosting company that owns it

Forum Questions & Comments / Secure SSL or not
« on: December 27, 2019, 12:58:01 PM »
My host for the Forum is bugging me about not having SSL and now they are really trying hard to get me to buy SSL and telling me that in 2020 browsers will start blocking non secure web sites but that has been out there since 2014 and I can't find anything new that says yes we are going to block all non secure sites. Like I told my host they can't do that as there are millions of non secure web sites out there. So if you wish it to be secure no problem I can do that but it is at a cost of $80.00 per year and that would bring the total cost of running this forum to $346.00 per year That's just for the web site and nothing else like buttons photos shipping and other gifts I give out Please all vote

Thanks

General Discussion / Bad weather
« on: July 21, 2019, 01:20:39 PM »
Sorry but i haven't really been around but this week we have had a batch of really bad weather. We lost power to my home Friday night and as of today Sunday they say it could still be a few days before we get our power back so im running my house off a small generator. Plus we lost several trees none hit the house and the whole area is now without power. our power company a Coop serves about 8000 homes and right now 74% of them are without power. They have brought in crews from 4 other power company's to help restore power. We had a small tornado go thru where i live yesterday and on Friday night one went about 15 miles north of me and Lightning hit our power  transformer and took out our power so looks like no power till about Tuesday so if anyone needs me in the next few days you might have to wait till we get power back Till then play nice
