What are some of your favorite Lisa Lambe pictures?

Here's one of my favorites. She looks like she's gazing straight into someone's soul.

Chloë announced a huge fundraising campaign tonight along with 2 new albums and possibly a TV special!

There is a LOT of information on her campaign site, so if you want all the details, check it out.

Chloë has decided to release two independent albums, without the backing of a powerful marketing machine. That means she has total control over what and when she releases. She can make the music she wants to make and the music that we want to hear. While that gives her unprecedented freedom, it also means she really needs our help to fund her projects.

Her first two albums (she's calling them projects, but I assume they will become albums, possibly of different titles) are:

Reimagine

Will feature the classic songs you know me for plus ones you may have heard me sing on stage but I never have recorded.   All reimagined and told my way.

Written on my Heart

If you have been following my journey you will already know that songwriting has become a huge part of my life.  I have been privileged to work with some amazing writers from around the world. Each is helping me tell my story all while creating music that I hope will make you feel as good as I do when I sing it.  "Written on my Heart" is a collection of these songs.

If we somehow manage to get her to $100K, she's doing a TV special for us.

She's offering a lot of other levels funding rewards as incentives (as if we needed more reasons to support her). Some of the rewards are insanely amazing. Details are on her campaign site!

Please take a moment to cast your free vote for Amy Rivard.

She needs our help to win the Opening Act competition!

The Opening Act is decided by real people through public voting (not a judging panel like you see on TV). Artists from all over the world have submitted their music for listeners to decide who should be the Opening Act at We Can Survive. In addition to performing at the sold out concert alongside industry superstars, our Opening Act will receive: their own private dressing room, a ton of exposure on the radio, a meet and greet with the other artists, and $10,000!

Where to Vote

https://theopenact.com/2019/amy-rivard

How Can You Vote

- You can vote for free once every 24 hours.
- It will ask you to log in to Facebook (to basically confirm you're a person).
- In addition to that, you can donate to MusiCares and that will cast 1 vote per dollar donated.
- They run promos once or twice per round that give you 2 votes per dollar donated, so you give the artist of your choice (ie. Amy) more bank for your buck.
- Voting in this round ends Thursday September 19th at 8PM PDT (11 PM EDT)

Wait, What Am I Voting For?

Basically, this is a competition where the winner gets:
- $10,000, and
- To be the Opening Act for the "We Can Survive" concert at the Hollywood Bowl in LA

The annual concert has brought some huge names in the past (Khalid, Shawn Mendes, and Katy Perry). This year the concert is headlined by Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, and Becky G. So it's a really big deal!

If (when) Amy wins, she'll be able to use the money to record all the songs she's been working on in a studio. Living in NYC is not cheap, so she really needs our help to be able to afford this.

Here's more information about the competition:
https://theopenact.com/

How Does the Competition Work?

Basically, there are 2 group stages. UPDATE: Amy already one her group in round one, which she had to do to advance to the semi-final group stage. That's the round that's currently taking place.

The semi-final groups consist only of singers that already won their group in round 1, so the competition is really tough! She has to finish 1st again in her semi-final group to move into the finals.

The finals is a head-to-head voting tournament consisting of the 16 semi-final group winners (4 rounds).

If I Donate, What Am I Donating To?

The donations go to MusiCares, which is dedicated to providing services and resources for musicians in times of need.
https://www.grammy.com/musicares/about

What Do I Need to Do?

You can vote once per day for free!

You just need to log in with your Facebook account. It's fast and super-easy and she's totally worth the few seconds it will take.

Please take a moment to vote for Amy once every 24 hours and help spread the word.

If you could donate as well, that would be great! Every vote every day adds up over the course of a week and even if we have like 10 people donating $10 in a particular round, that's an extra 200 votes for Amy (if you donate while they're doing 2-for-1 deals)!

Here's where to vote:

Mairead Nesbitt / Mairead Nesbitt: Celtic Spells
« on: August 28, 2019, 05:40:31 PM »
I found something interesting while searching for tour dates...

Apparently there's a new Mairead Nesbitt show coming called Celtic Spells.

It was mentioned on per profile on Ed Keane Associates Artist Management and Booking:

https://edkeane.com/roster/mairead-nesbitt-celtic-spells/

Quote
A new production by one of the Founder's of Celtic Women, Nesbitt returns to the stage of storytelling, spellbinding traditions, with Celtic Spells.

Star-crossed lovers are forbidden by their religions from being together - they must leave their homes and families, cross the ocean to build a life, a family...and cross time in the lives they create...

I haven't been able to find any corroborating evidence so far, so take it with a grain of salt for now, but it sounds interesting.

I think I might need to reserve a couple more vacation days for this.

Celtic Woman / David Downes Songs
« on: August 24, 2019, 12:01:39 PM »
Since I was asked about it recently, I thought I'd start a thread to keep track of all the songs David Downes wrote or helped write. He of course arranged many songs for Celtic Woman over the span of about 10 years, but these are the original songs he was actually involved in writing.

If you can think of more, feel free to add!

Airwaves
At the Céili
Awakening
The Blessing
The Call
Green the Whole Year Round
The Lost Rose Fantasia
The New Ground
One World
Send Me a Song
Sing Out!
The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun
The Soft Goodbye
Walking The Night

Celtic Culture / The Celtic Knot
« on: August 18, 2019, 03:30:36 PM »
Inspired by the most recent Celtic Collections newsletter, this series of posts covers the Celtic Knot, its history, and its various forms.

Knots are interlace patterns, a style that originated in the artwork of the late Roman Empire around the 3rd or 4th century AD or perhaps even further back, in Byzantine Constantinople. Although the knot appears in several key religious texts, the knot actually wove its way (pun intended) into Celtic culture even before the Christian influence emerged in about 450 AD.

The exact origins of the Celtic Knot lie beyond a distant fog though, because the Kelts weren't exactly known for their writing. When stories are passed down from one generation the next verbally, they tend to become distorted pretty quickly. However, the Irish Celtic knot, a style known as Ultimate La Tene or Hiberno-Saxon Insular art surfaced around 650 AD when Gaelic monks in monasteries of Ireland and Britain put together biblical manuscripts. This type of artwork found extensive use in the Book of Kells, an 8th century manuscript and one of the treasures of Irish history, preserved in Trinity College in Dublin.

Celtic Knots are known as "endless knots" (also known as "mystic knots"): a series of overlapping and/or interwoven knots that have no clearly defined beginning or end.

Stay tuned. More to come...

Fun and Games / Name That Tune
« on: August 18, 2019, 11:10:31 AM »
The objective of this game is to guess the name of the song based on clues.

There were a number of variations of this game on the old forum. I thought it might be fun to leave the format for this wide open.

The tune has to be a Celtic Woman song or a song performed by a current/former lead CW performer, choir member, or guest performer. But aside from that, you can fashion your clues in any way you wish.

Here's one to start the ball rolling.

Name a tune that has the following words:

heart, valleys, endless

Celtic Woman / CWazy Christmas (2019)
« on: August 04, 2019, 12:32:09 AM »
I guess I didn't get my fill of flying to concerts in May, so I'm doing it again in December, in spite of the significantly increased risk of weather delays.

I have a ticket to Celtic Woman in Denver (Dec 8) and 'Tis the Season (featuring Chloe Agnew with the Atlanta pops, Dec 6) and Meet and Greet tickets to Tim Janis's show in Detroit, Dec 10 (which I suspect will feature Mairead Nesbitt and possibly Lynn as well).

But this time I'm going to delay booking because there's still a lot that could change about that weekend, as Tracie and VegasDavid well know as I've been waging a battle with myself over this for weeks.

There is a chance Alex will be performing in Toronto Dec 7. She has performed with the Upper Canada Chorus for their Christmas show once before (Orla has performed the UCC twice in that show). I have missed Alex too many times now, so if she does a show there, I'm seeing her and everything else that weekend will have to work around it. But sadly, I won't know the special guest for that show in Toronto until probably the second half of September. I can't wait that long on a slim chance that Alex might be in Toronto. If she is, I guess I'll just eat the cost of the ticket to see Chloe and see Alex instead.

But it could get crazier. I suspect that Chloë might do another show in Georgia the night after her orchestra show. It could be a solo show, which could possibly feature Lisa K. Or it could be a Lisa K show that could feature Chloe. Which of those it is could make a huge difference. If it's Chloe's show, her M+G would be the same night, so I could get to meet Lisa. If it's Lisa's show, her M+G (if any) would probably be on the Sunday morning. Since the Celtic Woman concert in Denver is in the afternoon, I'd have to take an early morning flight to Denver. So if Lisa Kelly does a show on Saturday and a M+G on Sunday, I'd have to choose between a Lisa M+G and CW for the second time this year. This time, I'd be sticking around to meet Lisa.

Sooo, here are the possibilities so far.

1) If Alex is in Toronto Dec 7, I skip Chloe's show in Roswell, GA.

Sat, Dec 7: The Wonder of Christmas (Toronto)
Sun, Dec 8: Celtic Woman: The Best of Christmas (Denver)
Tues, Dec 10: Tim Janis w/ M+G (Detroit, featuring Mairead Nesbitt and possibly Lynn)

2) If Alex is not in Toronto Dec 7 and if there's a show on Saturday in GA too, I might have to skip the CW show in Denver:

Fri, Dec 6: 'Tis the Season (Roswell, GA, featuring Chloe with Atlanta Pops)
Sat, Dec 7: Chloe and/or Lisa in Georgia
Sun, Dec 8: CW: The Best of Christmas (Denver) OR Lisa M+G (Georgia)
Tues, Dec 10: Tim Janis w/ M+G (Detroit, featuring Mairead Nesbitt and possibly Lynn)

... and just for good measure, I'm going to the Celtic Woman: Best of Christmas show in Milwaukee on Dec 21.

So now I wait and see:
- Who is the guest with the Upper Canada Chorus in Toronto?
- Is Lisa and/or Chloe doing a show in Georgia on Saturday, Dec 7? And if so, who's show is it an is there a M+G on Sunday?

There's a possibility I'll be flying to Atlanta twice in the same week if Lisa Kelly does her show on a separate weekend.

Do you have a headache after reading all that? I know I do. Celtic Woman is one of the best things that ever happened to me but sometimes I get the feeling like they're conspiring to drive me insane.
