Well, the good news is Celtic Woman: The Magic of Christmas debuted in the charts!
The bad news is it's their
[EDIT: 2nd lowest] album debut position ever.
[EDIT: Christmas (Icon) debuted at #12 in 2015 but the promotion was so limited, many people probably didn't even know it existed. So The Magic of Christmas was the lowest debut of a highly promoted CW album].It's difficult to compare billboard rankings of albums across time periods because:
- The World Music market has changed significantly over the past few years.
- In recent years Billboard has (as far as I understand) started including digital album sales and streaming (except for YouTube) to determine chart performance.
Ultimately, the number that matters is the amount of money Celtic Woman actually makes on the albums. As long as their margins are still decent, they'll keep making them.
But I find it sad that their two best albums in my opinion (The Magic of Christmas and Ancient Land) have the least to show on the charts of any of their holiday and non-seasonal albums respectively.
It's also sad that Megan will likely never see a #1 debut for a Celtic Woman album as a member of the group.
