A Christmas Symphony Tour 2023 / Re: Celtic Woman Symphony Tour 2023

So I'm thinking that means a Christmas tour?   Basically, the month of December?

Toured 2023 / Re: 2023 Marks The All Post David Group

I saw my first show in 2007.  I'd agree that the show has changed, and I'm not basing that on the girls.  I always thought some of the earlier shows were more "fun".  Think TAR where the girls came out into the audience.  Lisa L sat down next to me on one show!  (empty seat in front row!).  Then you had the various band numbers.  Depending on the venue, the bagpiper would start at the back of the theatre and march forward while playing Amazing Grace.

I think I saw an interview with Chloe very early in the CW timeline where she said they never dreamed the show would become as big and popular as it did. They were having a lot of fun doing the show -- it wasn't just a job.  And, that showed.

Another reason I tended to like the earlier shows was they way they did the Meet & Greets.  It was after the show, so it wasn't quite as rushed.  Yes, you only met 2 girls, but you at least had a minute or two to talk to them, get an autograph, etc.  It was a more personal connection than from a group photo.

We know touring has to be exhausting for any group.  Then, trying to be "up" for a show every night is challenging.

I am aware I have been very fortunate to be able to see as many shows as I have.  Timing is everything!  I shut down my construction company in 2009 due to the Great Recession.  I had lots of time on my hands.  I had spent a lot of years on the road, so I also had lots of frequent flyer miles.  In 2009, my daughter was 16.  She liked CW as well and was happy to go to shows with me.  Granted, as long as they were in New York or Red Rocks.  The first live show we went to was in Fort Myers, FL.  Our excuse was she was checking our colleges (Florida Gulf Coast).  That gave her an excused absence from school.  We used the same excuse the following year to go to Columbus, OH, mainly because I got OSU football tickets as well!

We went to New York in 2008 when she was 16.  We did some of the usual tourist stuff, like Ellis Island.  Then, that night they did Isle of Hope.  Remember the line " Annie Moore from Ireland, who was all of 15 years"?  She was 15 at the time.  Really hit home with her about what immigrants had to go thru (including my grandparents).

In 2012 went to a show in Tampa (we live here).  M&G with Chloe and Mairead N.  M&G held after the show in the second floor lobby of the PAC.  Cookies and coffee by the PBS station.  The girls were sitting behind a table.  Most of the people had never been to a M&G before, so I and my wife hung back a bit.  When we got to the table, Chloe got up, walked around and hugged me.  The lady from PBS didn't know what to do or say, especially when Mairead did the same thing!  That was right after Mairead got engaged, so I had to ask her about her ring.

In 2009 there were back to back shows in New York.  Went to both.  Got a T-shirt signed by all 5.  You don't want to know what I had to do to get that accomplished!

I was in the audience for both tapings of Believe.  First night I was about the 6th row.  Yes, when they do some audience shots, you can see me.  If I remember, and I haven't watched the DVD for a while, I think you see me 3 or 4 times.

In response to LakersCeltic --

My favorite individual singer is Chloe, followed closely by both Lisa's.  The reason behind my choices partially has to do with the way the Meet & Greets were handled in the early tours.  They were held after the show.  Yes, you only got to meet 2 girls and you didn't know who you were getting.  You had the chance to actually talk to them for a minute or two and get an autograph signed.  All 3 of them and Mairead N were all very friendly, especially after they saw you a number of times.

Example 1 -- In 2009 I saw the show in Akron, Ohio.  It was at the University of Akron's Performing Arts Center.  I graduated from UA.  I was in the band, and performed on that stage a couple times.  The M&G was held in the Green Room.  I told Lisa K this, and said I could now tell people I performed on the same stage as CW!  She said, no they can say they performed on the same stage as me.  Yeah, I'm older.   The next year I was at a show in Albuquerque, NM.  Lisa was at the M&G.  She remembered our discussion!

As far as Chloe, the attached picture says it all.

There have been comments about going thru CW "withdrawal", going some time between shows (and that ignores 2021), adn what was your favorite tour.  So, I went back thru my notes.  If you talk number of shows, my favorite was Songs from the Heart.  Part of that was maybe due to time availability, but probably more due to liking the group as configured.  Then again, in 2010 went to 2 shows at Radio City and 2 at Red Rocks.  In 2011, two at RCMH but only 1 at Red Rocks.

Which should come first?  The new album or the Tour?

Celtic Woman / Re: What do you think they'll do next year?
« on: December 31, 2022, 03:39:36 PM »
Interesting that they have never said WHY they aren't touring.  I also find it a little strange that they bring in Hannah for a month worth of shows, and then don't do anything else.  I wonder what the contracts, especially Hannah's, says?  Are they hired for a tour?  A time period?

We all know COVID affected a lot of people, including musical groups.  Groups start touring again and it appears the audiences were coming back.  Now you shut down again for a year?  There's something going on that we don't know about.

Chloe Agnew / Re: Ellijay GA
« on: December 15, 2022, 11:48:49 AM »
I did attend Chloe's show in Georgia on Sunday, the 11th.  It was actually the Atlanta Pops Orchestra with Special Guest Chloe Agnew.  Show was at a place called the Victory Christian Center PAC in East Ellijay, GA.  About 1-1/2 hour drive from the Atlanta Aiport.

Very nice venue.  Large, open, flexible space.  They used padded chair for seating, supposedly 800.  Mostly full.

I think Chloe did a total of 7 songs.  Interesting to hear her song The Gathering when backed by a full orchestra.  The orchestra probably did 10 or 11 songs.

There was a M&G prior to the show.  Reminded me of the older ones PBS put on.  Hors'd'Oeuvres and punch.  Started at 6:30 -- Chloe showed up about 7:15.  Got a hug and photo.

Forgot to mention...

They were selling CW Christmas ornaments!!

I have to agree totally with Evening Star's review.  I saw the show on Tuesday night in New Philadelphia, Ohio after seeing Chloe and the Atlanta Pops on Sunday night.

New Philly was not generally someplace I would have expected CW to be at, but great venue.  Only 1,100 seats, but most were full.  OK, the first two rows were various University and Foundation officials,  Guess where some of the empty seats were?

I had planned on printing out the setlist, rather than making notes.  Of course, I forgot to do it.  It did seem like it was the same list, which is not surprising.

Anyway, great show.  I loved Hannah's voice. Yes, there were a few blending issues, but nothing that won't get fixed with some more shows and rehearsals.  Too bad we won't see a show for another year (at least).

The show was definitely worth all the hassle that flying Frontier causes!

Toured 2023. Canceled / Re: This is the new board for next year toured 2023

I too have some concerns about the future of CW.  That's one reason I'm traveling about 800 miles to see the Christmas Show.  Will it be the last show?  No idea.  I hope not, but just in case....

The fact that we have officially heard nothing from CW gives me concern, especially since there were some Spring concert dates leaking out.  Are they having trouble booking venues?  Sure, booking is an issue, but look what happened this year.  While I didn't look at every date, I think they did a pretty good job of keeping the various Cities in some kind of logical order.

I'm not sure I buy the story about it taking a year to "get the band back together again" unless the various members have gone on to other things.  They announced Hannah as the new member.  What is the contract status of the other girls?

I don't want it to end, but if it does, I have a lot of good memories (and photos!)

From Montana PBS.

The Celtic Women 2023 concert tour across the U.S has been canceled. Not to worry, because in 2024, Celtic Women will celebrate the 20th year of their partnership with PBS.

In order for the musicians and filmmakers to prepare for a brand-new program and concert tour, Celtic Women chose to cancel all U.S tours for 2023.

We will, however, be airing Celtic Women: "Postcards from Ireland" during our winter pledge drive that starts on Thursday, 11/23 and runs through Sunday, 12/11.
