General Discussion / Random things

Since the Board has been fairly quiet, found this in my old phone photos.  And yes, I probably still have it someplace.  From 2009 at Radio City.

Celtic Woman / Mount Rushmore
« on: April 29, 2024, 06:11:41 PM »
In the New Members section, someone made a comment asking who was on your Mount Rushmore of CW.  I thought that was a great question, and deserved it's own thread.

So, for me it's:

Celtic Woman 20th Anniversary Tour / Ticket Promo Code
« on: April 08, 2024, 12:43:05 PM »
So I'm going to go to the show in Cincinnati.  (Business trip scheduling!!).  Anyway, the Aronoff Center web site does show good tickets.  It has a place for a Promo Code.  I've haven't been able to find one anywhere.  Does anyone know if there is one available?

Forum Questions & Comments / Unsafe message -- ADMIN??
« on: January 09, 2024, 09:08:46 AM »
So, I'm recovering from a computer issue.  Ended up having to have a new hard drive installed, which, of course, required updating some software (which I try very hard NOT to do!)

Anyway, using Google Chrome, I'm getting a message that this website is unsafe because it can't prove it is CelticWomanForum.net.  I click on the proceed anyway button, and then confirm again and it let's me in.

Not sure exactly what the issue is.

Lisa Kelly / Masterclass
« on: December 17, 2023, 04:48:49 PM »
So I was finally able to attend one of Lisa Kelly's Masterclasses on Saturday, the 16th.  Of course, it just so happened to be the day after Chloe did a concert just down the road in Fayetteville.  2 things on one trip!

I had not sang since high school (and that was a looonnng time ago).  Having said that, had a great time.  Both Lisa and Chloe were great instructors.  There were about 30 people there.  We learned multiple songs, including one in Gallic.  That was, shall we say, interesting.  We did not do any of what you would consider traditional (US) Christmas songs.  We did do In the Bleak Midwinter, which I had heard, but really didn't pay attention to the words.

Most fun was something called Fairytale of New York.  This is supposedly the most popular Christmas song in Ireland.  Anything that starts out "It was Christmas Eve babe, In the drunk tank .."  ranks right up there.  Lisa said she did not print the 2nd verse for us, since it has some offensive language.

They gave us some tips on how to breathe better when singing, when to breathe, etc.  I'll probably never use these tips, but it was still really fun and interesting.

If you get a chance, GO TO ONE.  I know I'll try to do another one.

A Christmas Symphony Tour 2022 / Ornament

Picked this up at the Christmas show in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Chloe Agnew / Ellijay GA
« on: November 19, 2022, 11:07:14 AM »
An opportunity arose to get out of town the weekend of December 10th.  So, bought a ticket to see Chloe in North Georgia on the 11th.  According to Google, it's only 1-1/2 hours from the Atlanta airport.  Since Atlanta has a lot of flights to a lot of places, CW is in New Philadelphia, Ohio on the 13th.  That's doable either by driving or flying. Only real issue is the selection of seats isn't great.

Toured 2023 / Tour Postponed?
« on: October 28, 2022, 01:22:47 PM »
So I reached out to my local PBS station early today about tickets.  I just got a response saying the 2023 tour has been postponed until 2024.

Anyone else heard anything like this?

Chloe Agnew / Roswell GA show

So I went to the Atlanta Pops show featuring John Driskell Hopkins and CHLOE AGNEW on Sunday.  Overall, I really enjoyed the concert.  Some new, updated arrangements of old Christmas songs.

Going back to the 1970's, one of the greatest female singers was Karen Carpenter.  I have a couple of her records.  She did a song called Merry Christmas Darling.  Chloe did that song Sunday night!  When I got home last night, I dug out the Karen Carpenter record and listened to her doing that song.  OMG, Chloe's version was eerily close to Karen's.  I loved it!!

Ancient Land / PBS -- Ancient Land
« on: August 17, 2021, 08:21:41 AM »
So last night (Monday), I noticed my local PBS station was playing the Ancient Land show.  Didn't know it was pledge week, but what the heck, watch it anyway.  Maybe they have a good deal on tickets for the upcoming tour.  (I already have tickets, but you never know).

Anyway, when they cut away to the pledge section, it was a recorded spiel for CELTIC THUNDER!  Hope you are enjoying the show; the guys will be here in a couple months, etc.

Postcards from Ireland / Prices
« on: May 06, 2021, 11:27:12 AM »
So I just bought a couple tickets for the show in Daytona Beach.  The CW tour site links to TicketMonster.  I paid $166 per ticket for 4th row.  I have tickets (from 2 years ago) for the show in St Pete, FL.  Those were (and still are) only $85 each.

Anyone else notice a discrepancy in price?

Anyone going?

Mairead Nesbitt / April 1 show
« on: March 10, 2021, 03:53:15 PM »
So I was considering trying to go to Mairead's show in Tallahassee on April 1.  It's only a 4 hour drive, and $60 is OK for a ticket.  However, and maybe it's because I'm an old guy, I was having issues with the venue's web site.  I understand the whole "social distance" means certain seats are blocked off.  OK, where is my seat?  Their seat map doesn't seem to either allow you to pick your seat or show the "best available".  If I'm spending the time and money to go (and the legislature is in session so hotel rooms are nuts), I'd at least like a good seat.

Celebration: The 15th Anniversary Tour / On or Off?
« on: October 14, 2020, 03:46:10 PM »
So I have tickets for 2 shows (so far!) next year.  One is for a show that was postponed.  The other one I just bought.  One is local; one requires traveling.  If I'm going to travel, there's a second show I will go to.  Once you figure out the cost of a plane ticket, hotel, rental care, etc. the second show doesn't really cost that much.

I know the CW web site is listing shows.  But, on the other hand, Broadway is shut down until May 2021.

I tend to believe that IF the tour goes forward, there will NOT be any M&G's.

My poll question is "Do you think there will be shows next year?"  Maybe the real question is what will happen with COVID, but this is a CW forum.

Celebration: The 15th Anniversary Tour / 2021 Tour
« on: July 18, 2020, 07:57:16 PM »
So it appears most of the 2021 dates are now up.  I still had a ticket for one of this year's cancelled shows which I let roll over to 2021.  I started seeing if I could plan another road trip.

I have always tried to buy thru PBS so I could get a M&G, especially since Chloe is touring with CW.  So far none of the PBS stations I checked with have anything listed on their web sites.  Yes, for most of them it's probably too early.

However, I'm also guessing that there will not be any M&G's next year due to COVID.

At least I got a second row in St Pete, FL.  What's getting out of hand with the venues is not the ticket cost ($123.50), but the over $30 in added fees (handling, etc).

If Chloe was touring on her own again next year, I'd probably not travel to see a CW show.
