Title: Nightvisiting
Post by: CWazyTom on May 21, 2023, 08:36:19 AM
After 4 years without seeing Lisa Lambe, I finally got to see her again last night! It was a long trip from Canada to Listowel, Ireland. The airport in Toronto (especially that section the flights to Ireland leave from) is a joke: poor layout and general lack of space make that section very crowded. If you follow me on Instagram, I posted some photos where there are literally thousands of people packed from wall to wall for 6 gates that are all next to each other with limited seating and overlapping lines. The overnight flight was delayed a few hours as usual.

I got some half-sleep on the plane. Getting in late caused some transportation problems. I didn't have many bus options left that would make it from Dublin to Listowel in time.

Listowel is a nice little town. There's a river walk and bridge with a nice view down the river. I stayed at a hotel about a minute walk from the venue, which was in a small old church.

It was general seating and I didn't get to the venue until after the doors opened. Fortunately, since the show was in Ireland, there was still a seat in the front row. For whatever reason, audiences here don't like the front.

Lisa was accompanied by 3 musicians that played a variety of instruments. The show was a combination of her singing and telling tales from Irish folklore. Most of the songs were songs I'd never heard before (except on the livestream version of her show on Patreon). It was different than any show I've attended before and was quite refreshing. It was an acoustic show and the songs were well arranged. We got to sing along on a few songs (Green Grow the Rushes, Galway Shawl). The audience was pretty reserved, content to just listen to Lisa's beautiful voice rather than participate.

After the show, Lisa came to meet with the audience. She spent quite a bit of time chatting with me and taking some photos. She also signed a poster for me. It was a nice evening!

Lisa hopes she'll get to tour the show in the US some day, although there are no immanent plans to do so.

Wow! That's awesome you can just jet over to Eire like that. Anything else fun or CW related on your trip itinerary?

Sound like a fun cozy concert. I think a lot of CW and CT do church concerts, which I think is a great setting. Well better suited than seedy bars, like you described in your Chloe thread.

I still love listening to old CW songs from Lisa Lambe. She's one of my faves because of how she puts her own spin on them.

The lack of a spring tour presented some unique opportunities. I'm kind of "all-in" on the travelling this year. There will be more.
